Hot chocolate in my thermos is working out for me this week. Almost too hot. My current bougy concoction is Whittards dark (wouldn't buy again, not worth the money) and a dab of maple syrup (might try dark sugar next), with soya milk

I have to show so much restraint on Instagram when there are creators complaining about AI training or educational vloggers complaining that their sex ed stuff is getting shadowbanned. Come to Mastodon!

(I get why they want to reach a larger audience on the big platforms but come on, we lap that stuff up over here)

@queenofsquiggles@transfem.social I'm not exactly sure what the hiring landscape looks like right now, but coding has historically been one of the most accepting of self-taught folks, with job ads usually stating "Computer Science degree or equivalent experience." Given your hobbyist coding, I don't think the associates degree would add all that much. What I'd focus on would be demonstrating that you can work on larger codebases over a longer period of time (maintenance is important) and ideally some teamwork.

@PetraPhoenix I think the culture around gardening promotes this idea that you have to treat seedlings with so much care to avoid them immediately failing, but in my experience, except for some specialist plants, just vaguely mimicking what they'd experience in the wild is perfectly fine—just get some soil, keep it reasonably moist, and you should be okay

@ashenwave@mastodon.art I've been having the same problem for a while now too. It feels not much of what's getting published is appealing to me, or perhaps I'm just not coming across recommendations well suited for me. What's the last book you read that you enjoyed?(Edit: oh sorry, you said you couldn't remember!)

I'm glad I managed to get out in the sun for the couple of days we had it last week. It's overcast again—and so cold. I'm back in my winter jumper, I thought that was put away until next winter!

I love that if I see an interesting instance name in a mastodon username I can just whack that domain into the browser and see what the instance is about… but it's always slightly disappointing to see the generic Mastodon front page. Masto should make it easier to MySpace it up in there.

I have gone with a field maple, which is a type of acer, to help fill in the visual gap from the conifer in the opposite garden that was cut down. Another conifer would probably have been easier but I thought why not have a bit of a change. The sampling comes with multiple branches intact and says to cut them all back except for one if you want a more traditional tree look; not sure what style I want yet, but I think I have time to decide at least

#DreamLog

Another night of many dreams.

I was receiving the delivery of the sapling tree I'd ordered and was trying to hide the contents of the package from the neighbour who was also out front. I took it into the back garden to plant, using the time they were at the front to sneak it into the ground when they wouldn't see it. However, it somewhat fell apart in my hurry, and I ended up having barely more than a centimetre left in the ground.

I expect things to play out identically IRL 😅

I was staying in a holiday resort in a tropical country, where everywhere was flooded with water up to your ankles. I asked the staff about it and they said it was to stop mosquitoes biting people's feet. Also Jeff Bridges was there! It turned out that everybody at the resort knew that the world was about to explode and they were trying to keep it from the guests.

frankly puzzled that apparently I set up my website to automatically start up when my remote server rebooted for the first time in over a year.

It's only been rebooted four times in the last six years, that barely seems worth my time XD

It surprised me the other day to find out that most of the people I was talking to, who were even on average older than me, had never re-wired an electrical plug. I've done it so many times when running extension cables through tight gaps. Am I the odd one out here?

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st I feel like my chances of finding a job are much reduced until then, too. I could see myself enjoying cleaning up the mess left by an LLM in a codebase though
