@nicolas17 Mac already comes with a UNIX system, and the best performance & stability and more software support than linux to get most from the hardware. I think the only thing about asahi is reviving old computers with no software support on M chips (which is none for now, but there will be). If you want to daily drive linux just get a Framework or some general laptop you can buy from your local tech store as linux supports many hardware every year. windows level support on my huawei 14

C isnt used for being better then x or y lang, sorry if i get you wrong, but C has some benefits overall, it can interract with other modern languages like rust, zig, go or something which many apps are written today (rust to c or zig to c is harder because of name mangling etc etc), has a bunch of good young (for the long term continuity of project) developers to contribute to project, low level enough to do things like this and high level enough to easily write, why not choose c then?

i think programming is not about passion anymore and more about "the thing every kid must learn, this is future". i started because of passion in embedded, i understand the concept of cpu, compilers, how things work at lowest level. im an eee student and most of my friends are, like just parrots, they repeat what they saw in class and not thinking "why im doing this, what happens in behind when i do this". im fairly (self-graded i must say) a good developer and this is what makes me different.

@RealGene @LinuxJedi @raymaccarthy if only arduino used a more standart compiler with just a HAL library like stm

in my opinion there is not a really arduino replacer for beginners, simplicity eliminates esp32, upload problems, guru meditation errors etc. (if we are using official sdk for all boards, like esp-sdk) too wireless dedicated, rpi has pico but erratas eliminate him, i love programming it anyways great sdk, zero and 5 are sbc, they are in another class. for plug&play arduino is easiest. no sdk or toolchain STM is industrial, and HAL is so heavy. most of time i just use my bare metal library.

@goedelchen @raymaccarthy @LinuxJedi what makes c obsolete? its the backbone of low level things. i dont find the rust or go type langs "the successor" type of lang because they are mostly written to run on os in mind, you cant make something in low level rust without setting compilers and toolchains for half an hour. and then you use tons of macros just to be low level. you can say ada or fortran is obsolete, only legacy systems use and no more real world apps written in them, but not c

@raymaccarthy @goedelchen @LinuxJedi C comes with a new standart every year, doesnt this puts C in “not obsolate” shelf? out of respect for your age, im asking out of curiosity

well i was asking for writing something like linux or a RTOS. because im mostly working with MCUs like small STMs, which cant run linux or any usable unix. the “lamp with remote control” is what im doing generally. i think lang doesnt so much matter there but i wanted to ask anyway since. what you think of rust code inside linux? i look generally positive since more contributors, safer and easier to write, but i dont like how people are looking to rust like the best and only c replacer in kernel

@kasperd @LinuxJedi I think if original project is made in C, continue in C. using multiple languages will add complexity to building because most of builders like cmake and cargo are more language spesific, and will require tons of more storage for rust packages and toolchains. if you got the building done you still need to add things like #[no_mangling] to every func or struct. multi language is just added complexity with no benefit most of times. write better memory safe code instead.
