Used to call myself a dual-class programmer/sysadmin, now I'm more into dev than ops. Very much into reading, linguistics, conlanging, world building, gaming and mechanical keyboards.

Replying to
@jhooper@techhub.social @aks@scalie.zone It used to be easy to rice (much harder on wayland). Try out window managers, icon sets, system fonts, terminals, desktops, tiling vms, stuff that run in the panel, xscreensaver with all the extras, and that's *before* you start distro-hopping. Read every installed man page. Try using the small tools (cat, head, tail, cut, wc, grep, echo etc., and with pipes) instead of an editor. Find your perfect shell. Try out terminals, and programs that only run in the terminal. 1/2

@ngaylinn He trusts the graphs the vibe-coded scripts spit out, because he understands those graphs, but he left the coding to an llm because he doesn't want to understand code, but trusts the llm blindly. Make it make sense.

@kechpaja The local library has a dictionary but that's not a good place to find bound forms not in one's own language.

@quixoticgeek @yetiinabox I had access to one at the uni computer club (that place collected anything that could be on the internet with coax) but it was sloooow. I used Window Maker for a long time though, miss the way it laid out menus.

@davidism@mas.to I would prefer the top one, because of the magic of NULL in SQL. For instance, NULL is unique, which affects indexes quite a bit. I'm using Django though, so rarely break out the NullableCharField.
