@nuintari@mastodon.bsd.cafe I don’t know if you’ve explored it, but long term care insurance for her could give you a break on time and expenses. You could arrange at-home medical visits and even 24 hour on-call for her. Trying to think of a way you could share the effort with someone some day. I’ve been where you are now. Wishing you lots of strength & stamina for the duration.

@AaronDavid Love it! You got me on this one. Thanks for bringing up good memories on the early Internet, too.

@inkican@mastodon.social Something else I have not seen in years: the Reader Service Card! You’d fill out this card and mail it to Byte. They would then send your mailing address to each of the vendors you chose on the card to have product information sent to you. Does anyone recall if being on the reader service card was automatic for companies with ads in the magazine? Or was it an upgrade option for ad buyers to also be on the card? This saved you from sending multiple info requests (and multiple stamps) to each company you wanted to reach. (Edited to add the image)

@mttaggart Thanks for pointing us to this. I’ve been raising concerns about MCP auth security internally since we started using them. Especially with 3rd party MCPs. I wasn’t surprised reading this that the rush to make the new cool thing live skipped proper authorization.

I’m putting this here as a prediction. I want to be wrong about this. The AI firms demanding a slowdown on development is in direct contradiction with past behavior of these companies and their leadership. AI firms have consistently focused solely on the growth of their own company valuations by any means necessary. What they have done is make very large capital commitments based on predictions of future revenue that stretch credulity. I believe that the call for slowdowns and especially government regulation, is motivated by these companies’ realization that they cannot possibly meet these financial obligations. They are hoping to cancel contracts, claiming: “the laws have limited our ability to achieve our revenue expectations. So we can’t be held responsible for these large contracts we signed.” This tactical move will keep investment money flowing in for AI companies from investors who were worried about the level of risk investing in AI. It will be seen by the markets as a smart financial move and enable the AI companies to continue today’s status quo, rather than face the financial ruin present in their current business models and dealings. I worry for the long-term viability of suppliers to AI companies who have made their own large (and even existentially risky) capital commitments based on their contracts with these AI companies. It’s these suppliers that will be left to deal with the financial aftermath of the AI companies’ pullback. Please let me be wrong about this.

@nuintari@mastodon.bsd.cafe Absolutley makes sense. I didn’t properly appreciate the challenge with her mental health. Hoping for a solution for you that gives some relief.

@Edent@mastodon.social We had good experience with the RATP app (on iOS) during our visit. Busses + Trains in the one app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fabernovel.ratp&hl=en

@Edent@mastodon.social Ah, I see where I misunderstood you. Agreed, a unified ticket, maybe like SwissPass would be ideal.

@dee@social.treehouse.systems One of my favorite words along with “widdershins” when explaining how you though something would go vs. how it actually did.
