I've spent about 100 hours of work to make sure git-annex can build without dependencies that contain LLM generated code. At least so far. https://git-annex.branchable.com/no_llm_code/ This has me reconsidering my continued use of #haskell

Receptionist claimed that if I self paid for a doctors visit it would he insurance fraud.

Sigh, now I have to write a letter to their board suggesting they not mislead their patients.

(I assume it would violate an agreement they have with the insurer, which is no excuse for that behavior)

Driving 10 hours to the beach. Then a ferry. Then putting up a tent hopefully not in the dark.

@cwebber@social.coop of course a deterministic LLM could be made. But ~noone would use it. Being able to reroll the dice is an important part of the confidence game.

#offgrid hot water from #PV achieved. Heated 66 gallons today with about 8 kwh, with another 8 kwh going into the car, and the usual 3 kwh for the rest of the house's loads

I've wanted solar hot water for a long time, resisted the complexity of solar thermal, pondered on direct DC heating but it's got issues, in the end cheap solar panels and hybrid heat pump wins.

It's cloudy and the hot water heater is turned off to save power. Suddenly,
the clouds break, and the house's battery is confronted with more incoming amps than are safe to sustain. It's about to shut off half the solar panels to save itself. But then the hot water heater dives in and takes the power.

The car's battery is low, and the hot water heater has a good amount of hot water, but could still heat more. It runs for a while but sees the house battery is depleting under both loads, and won't meet the hourly target. So it shuts off to maximise the car and house battery charges.

Or vice-versa, the hot water heater is running low and the car stops charging.

A few scenarios I automated today.. Mostly using less code than it takes to describe them here.

installed hybrid hot water heater successfully, no #plumbing leaks and running #offgrid while my car also charges at max rate

#gitAnnex can now use Iroh to connect two repositories located anywhere, including behind firewalls needing hole punching.

As well as sending data with git-annex, git pull and push works too

Pity that linux does not have some kind of filesystem hierarchy standard.

Pretty sure that the AO Smith 120v hybrid hot water heater's power usage is measured in their cloud backend at 2x the actual kwh used. Someone forgot to account for the difference from 240v. Lol.

planning my trip home tomorrow by #EV --

Stopping in a city park for 20 minutes. Or maybe 30, there is a lake and trails.
Stopping in Asheville long enough to get some good cheese.
Lunch in a cafe downtown in a college town

Vs the uncivilized alternative:

Stopping um, somewhere to pee and because $3.50/gallon is somehow cheap now.
Stopping um, somewhere for fast food and oh is it $4/gallon now?
Arriving 1 hour early tho! Time to catch up on news about the war.

Eight hours of driving over two days, evenly split over between EV and gas, and the first time I've had to do this in a year. The 13 minutes spent charging were nicer and faster, and 10x cheaper.

@reverendstanley@kolektiva.social The only situations where the bifacial panels would be better are if you mount them upright. Eg, east-west so they catch morning and evening sun would be a good suppliment for some south facing panels. If you're laying them flat or south facing, bifacial gain will usually be minimal.

Bear in mind that the main reason bifacial panels are common in the US market is they happen to get around a solar panel tariff on a technicality.

successful piano tipping, which was tricky given the size of the room it's in

disassembly will need to wait for another day, blocked by several issues including not having a big enough screwdriver bit
