@charette@mstdn.ca I worked for a corp that had undergone layoffs every time it changed hands. The last CFO told us on a Thursday afternoon to lay off 250 people on Friday. I said, "how about giving us the weekend to figure out how to do that without crippling the company." And I swear this is true, he said, "I want to come in tomorrow and see 250 bloodspots on the wall." I quit that day, after 13 years.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife is essentially removing protections for endangered species, allowing them to be killed as long as it isn't "intentional." In other words, drillers, lumber companies and developers are off the hook as long as they say oopsie. #USFishandWildlife #EndangeredSpecies #TrumpDestroysEverythingHeTouches #FuckingGOP

Replying to

@gersande@the.bisexuals.town Horribly appalling behavior. The sickness emanating from the US government and social media has spread everywhere.

@ifixcoinops Before covid, Celestial Seasonings did tours of their operation. The mint tea was kept in a separate, sealed vault-type room, but they let you walk into it for a minute. Sinus clearing awesomeness. They also have a little room with the original paintings that decorate their boxes. Edit: I just learned the tours are back!

Thank you to all the firefighters who've been out there for weeks, risking their lives, giving their all. You're all heroes. #wildfires2026

The Seven Daughters of Dupree (Recommended with Caution) The Seven Daughters of Dupree by Nikesha Elise Williams. Brilliant writing. Seven trauma-hardened generations enduring every cruelty men inflict. Caution: Scenes of horrific brutality, particularly chapter 24. Skip it or read at your own peril. #bookstodon #booklovers #bookreview #books https://bookreviewsintenwords.wordpress.com/2026/06/30/the-seven-daughters-of-dupree-recommended-with-caution/

@Lightfighter Seriously, I love all the post-apocalypse movies, but I have no desire to be the last man standing in a kill or be killed world.

The Housemaid (Highly Recommended)

Twisty, jaw-dropping, satisfying thriller. Read it before the movie spoilers. #bookstodon #booklovers #bookreviews #books

Replying to

@jeffjarvis@mastodon.social This is how Dejoy and the USPS will steal elections. Warehouse mail until after the deadline and then postmark it. Make plans for dropping your ballot off instead of mailing it. Make sure your community knows where to drop ballots.

At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon. Cozy. Bible-loving people being kind is nearly the entire plot. #bookstodon #booklovers #books #bookreview

@cstross@wandering.shop A good time to remind you to read West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge, a wonderful novel about the historic transport of 2 giraffes across the U.S. when road travel and giraffes were both uncommon. #bookstodon

People We Meet on Vacation

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. Clever, romantic, sexy, but not compelling. Brief TV glimpses recommended. Note: I literally read this on a beach, and kept reaching for other books after a few pages. #Bookstodon, booklovers #bookreview #books
