I used to stare at a silent terminal wondering if my script had hung or was still processing. One import fixed that permanently.

Wrap any iterable with `tqdm()` and you get a live progress bar with percentage, speed, and ETA — 60 nanoseconds overhead per iteration. Works in terminals, Jupyter notebooks, pandas operations, and even as a CLI pipe. Zero configuration needed.

I've been reading source files with cat for 15 years. Plain white text, no line numbers, no context. bat showed me what I was missing.

bat is cat with syntax highlighting, line numbers, git change markers in the margin, and automatic paging for long files. Detects language from the file extension or shebang. Drop-in replacement — aliasing cat to bat is all it takes.

Hugging Face's distil-whisper takes OpenAI's Whisper and compresses it to 756M params (down from 1.55B), delivering 6x faster speech recognition while staying within 1% word error rate. Works as a drop-in with the Transformers pipeline or as a speculative decoding assistant alongside full Whisper. English-only for now.

PoET uses hierarchical transformers to calibrate each ensemble member individually rather than treating the ensemble as a blob. It brings up to 20% improvement for 2m temperature globally and works across different ensemble sizes without retraining.

I keep seeing people assume you need a huge team to build something meaningful.

This list collects examples that say otherwise: Instagram had 13 employees at acquisition, WhatsApp had 55, Craigslist generates ~$1B/year with about 50 people, and BuiltWith does $14M/year with a single employee. The Wright brothers are on there too.

Good ammunition for the next time someone says your team is too small to matter.
