Looks like I'll soon be able to start working on libomemo and OMEMO2 support for Converse.js. 🎉

My calendar has been cleared for the next month or so.

Some other #XMPP clients like Movim will likely also use libomemo once it's done.

Thanks to @nlnet@social.nlnet.nl for generously sponsoring this work 🙏

🎉 Converse 13.0.0 is out!

Two big #XMPP features land in this release:

💬 XEP-0444: Message Reactions — react to messages with emojis
↩️ XEP-0461: Message Replies — reply to specific messages in a thread

Plus:

🏠 Autocomplete for XMPP providers when adding contacts
🎧 Audio player accessibility fixes for screen readers (NVDA, JAWS)
🐛 Many bugfixes including date/time translation, emoji shortname conflicts, and off-screen menus in fullscreen mode

Mozilla has rewritten MDN to use web components instead of React.

I'm glad see they also use Lit for their components and RSPack as their bundler.

I rewrote Converse.js into web components about 5 years ago and also opted for Lit the components and later on I migrated to RSPack.

So it's nice to get a little vindication for these decisions (even though I never really doubted them for Converse).

You may have spotted that MDN has a new frontend. There's plenty happening under the surface, so let's unpack the technologies we chose, the architectural decisions we made, and why we did a rebuild at all.

A while back I posted about how Converse.js was being fully translated into Ukrainian and Russian.

Today I noticed that the Persian translations have recently been updated and stand at 71%, which I find interesting given the Iranian situation.
