What a depressingly voluminous list.
Threatening vibrations out there, stay safe today, friends. On one trip, I saw:
A crime scene where someone intentionally drove their car through a cinder block wall into a paint store. This store had someone accidentally drive into it a couple years ago.
The whole city blanketed in wildfire smoke.
A light rail train stalled on the tracks.
A lady swigging from an open wine bottle while driving.
A major freeway accident with an overturned car.
That's more'n enough Outside for today.
The Jellyfin desktop client got deprecated in favor of an "experimental rewrite" with one of its three goals to test "the effectiveness of Claude Code as a tool to aid application rewrites"
fuckin welp
Might fuck around and start believing in reptilians. Makes as much sense as anything else these days.
When your car installs new software, that's an auto update.
They should make a Predator / King Kong film and call it Ape x Predator
Doctor's office has a new laminated paper describing how they use an LLM note taker this visit. Ask if I can opt out, and I can. But then get pressed why. And then pressed more because they didn't like my answer, and "it doesn't make diagnostic decisions."
This fucking sucks.
A sampling of the fine cinema recently added to my NAS:
- Outlaw of Gor
- Demon Cop
- Dr. Alien
- Cemetery High
- Die Hard Dracula
- Robot Holocaust
If you believe testicles are divine, are you sack religious?
Greenhouse (the recruiting platform) added an LLM chatbot. The button to open it floats in the lower-left of the window. On the scorecard page, it obscures the text of the candidate's scorecard writeup.
Edit: this uBlock Origin rule eradicates the chat widget:

@technomancy @lhp @milagemayvary @fmasy @Khrys Which makes no sense to me, LLMs are the greatest threat to software licensing in our lifetimes.
...so far
MMORPG is a word, and it's pronounced Mmore Pig
TIL the UNC SunSITE is still up.
Edit: Okay, yes, it's a mirror. But all the old URLs redirect and it's the same as it ever was.
Look, I'm not one to kink shame a guy, but I really do think it's unacceptable on a viscerally repulsive level to marry Kristi Noem.
I have decided that the Bobiverse books are akin to LitRPG, but for Cookie Clicker type incremental games.
Anyone have a source for HP 03a (formerly C3903a) toner cartridges? They seem to be discontinued by HP and the OEM ones are often DOA in sealed packaging, so would prefer a third party or remanufactured option.
"Any flu or COVID-like symptoms?"
"Nope, only hantavirus."
Rather annoyed to have received a record in this condition after paying the new vinyl big bucks. All three seams of the inner liner split and a corner crushed.
(It was the normal price for new vinyl, I just prefer buying for $1 at garage sales)
@SarraceniaWilds@sunny.garden Angryboost is best boost.

@vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net Oh boy, I genuinely don't remember. SB Pro was already out by then, and other manufacturers were catching up, so it was on the low end of the market by then. Don't think it could have been more than $120, and may have been as cheap as $80.
The card I bought after that one was a Pro AudioSpectrum 16.

@vga256@mastodon.tomodori.net I also had that exact card. Saved my allowance and lawn mowing money until I could buy it at the computer store next to the arcade in the little mall in the little town I grew up in.

@lhp@mastodon.social @dfortes@mastodon.social I've never used it, but skimming the README, that does not appear to be the case. It does significantly more, and also supports non-Git backends with the same interface.
I would absolutely daily drive a late 1980s Grumman LLV.

@argv_minus_one @ireneista Compton and Picom are two other X compositors, I've used both.

@molly0xfff Oh, that's nice.
Still rocking an Ergodox after 10+ years. Trackball in the middle is The Way.
This show is a highbrow prestige TV remake of Alien Private Eye (1989).
I am supposed to draw a large system diagram for a meeting tomorrow. Miro, the tool my employer uses for this sort of thing, is completely down, and has been for 40 minutes.

@jonschwenn Love RePC, they've been around for ages. They have a second location in Tukwila, each has their own vibe.
RePC is IMO way better than Free Geek. RePC has a lot of vintage components, you can walk out with everything you need to build a 386 beige box rig.
Free Geek a smattering of higher value stuff, like 80s Macs and CRT monitors, but nothing like the bins of components RePC does.

So yeah if anyone has a recommendation for a decent distro or OS that has excellent ZFS support (which isn't a Debian fork, obvs), I'd love to hear about it.
Everyone in the 1991 Dark Shadows reboot has an *outrageous* French accent.
I would genuinely pay $100 to watch a greybeard explain freshmeat.net to a GenZ teen.

@mcc@mastodon.social I own their one album, but the B sides were always IMO their best material.
This is my favorite, "Props Got Mo' Skills." According to the DJ in the 90s who played it the first time I heard it, it's a live recording when they had a bunch of equipment fail, and was improvised on the spot with a mic and turntable.

Linear (a SaaS work tracking system) reset everyone's preferences so you get their LLM agent when you open it.
(You can fix it in Settings -> Preferences -> General -> Default home view)

@mathew@universeodon.com This one got infected with the stupid flow where you enter your email and they send a link which lets you log in. Which I loathe.
Sigh, Firefox 152.0 and later have removed the ability to hit "enter" to confirm a download, you have to click the button with the mouse.
Anyone know the about:config flag to turn that crap off?
Please enjoy this diagram I found in the Canon Speedlite 550EX manual.
