The official trailer for the "Musk" movie is out. Watched it… and what made me surprisingly uncomfortable was that repeating "Sell you a dream" music theme. Not only did it sound like an a-cappella part of an 80s cliche US soft rock song, it sounded like AI to me. As if the promising movie tries to sabotage itself by using AI generated music?!
Looked it up and... hmmm. This is actually music by David "Talking Heads" Byrne. The music itself is nominated for an Oscar already - what?? It's not even out yet! Mortal humans can't listen to it right now. I know David Byrne is an iconic figure, but can someone get Oscar nominated based only on this "being an iconic figure" fact?
Apparently.
Back to my initial observations: Byrne's voice in the trailer is heavily processed up to a point where it's almost not recognizable anymore. I know I didn't, and I know his voice quite well by having listened to a lot of music by him. But why is this necessary? Does really everything has to be polished so much the polish outshines the art beneath? So much it becomes artificial?
I mean, I only know some seconds, I can't really "judge" the song yet - maybe that ArtIficial atmosphere of the music fits the imagery of the movie perfectly. I really hope so – Byrne might be the perfect guy for the job. Seriously. Then again, when going so far back into 80s/70s art wave territory: Why not Laurie Anderson? Does it always have to be a bro thing?
Anyway, first impression stands: I am irritated.

In English: "Me 'n my fedies". It's a praise for all the kewl beings in the Fediverse (the "Fedies" :) ). You all make this wonderful place what it is, so therefore this track is for you :) I was thinking about making an English version as well, but I simply cannot affort the time at the moment. Sorry about that, hope you'll like it anyway.
I mean, it's maybe the first German Language #Bonkwave track, or am I wrong? However I cannot rule out that it's in fact #noBonkwave . Not sure here.

As a musician I have to make through 4 different complex release processes now:
1. Bandcamp (of course - this is, where people are discovered. Important thing for most musicians)
2. Mirlo
3. Bandwagon
4. subvert
2-4 forcing me through a ridiculous user unfriendly Paypal alternative: Stripe.
Personally I have no idea at least for Mirlo how to setup Stripe in a way, people could pay per Album or per Title. In Bandwagon I didn't even try.
Now Subvert even advertises Stripe as a good feature, as it's not Paypal. But Stripe is US based as well. They have no problem to cut your money flow just for rumors of you being anti fascist (the most human and democratic stance) or someone claims you take money for doing naughty things (also human behavior in the history of mankind).
This happened already.
Good luck contacting their hotline in such a case.
While saying all this I'm well aware: Anything not Paypal should be preferred. But there aren't much alternatives, and the one (one! besides Crypto) we've got isn't necessarily and objectively better.
But the main problem I see:
We devide attention to musicians this way!
Every new service takes away users and supporters from the others.
And music is cluttered all over the place even more. Good luck finding that particular piece of music that could really change your life when it's on Mirlo only.

Personally I've given up here as a "semi professional consument". I need around 40h to prepare my radio show of 1 hour. I can't check #Mirlo, #Bandwagon, #Subvert, and the #Faircamp scene extra - on top of checking #Bandcamp. A lot of bands, let alone consumers don't even know about Bandcamp! And that is by far the most agreed upon service for indie and underground artists. Then there is also Soundcloud (which I hate) - lots of trap/hip-hop stuff is exclusively there.
If I read here in the Fediverse (my only social network) about new releases, best already embedded in your post - I'll listen.

Btw. , some people ask how long it takes to create one issue of my "Radio Irrtum!" show. All in all over 30 hours, maybe 40. For being one hour on air.
It takes:
- listening (intensely) to like 50 fresh releases (out of around 100 with my Bandcamp filters plus other sources) per month
- selecting about 20 tracks worthy for the show (with noting run time per track and style)
- see how they fit together, reduce again to around 12
- bringing those 12 tracks into the right order (first pop, then hip-hop/beats, then club/bass, then experimental, then punk/handmade, then something calm)
- see what I can buy, see what I can take from my streaming flat rate
- check what's not on Spotify (I use another service), check what's CC
- writing to the artists, trying to get extra Intel directly from them
- doing recherche about the other artists (most I do not know at all)
- writing the manuscript
- check out what I can play in the background
- record live
- trimming the live recording to exactly 57 min, doing crossfading where necessary, cutting bloopers . Audio Levels of the different music tracks are also a challenge. Doing all this while trying to be sensitive regarding the music I unfortunately have to cut because you know... 57 min
- playing out the master, making an EBU R 128 version for the station and an standard MP3 version for my web archive
- listening to this EBU R 128 final mix , sometimes I still find errors at this point, so back to the mixing desk again
- writing some short introduction text for the station and then: upload to the station.
All this using #Audacity (sample editing), #Ardour (mixing), Renoise (Live Jingles /Station IDs), and ffmpeg/lame for file format converting on Arch Linux, Libre Office for manuscript and spreadsheet (track timing/order planning).
That could be it. But then my station does literally nothing to promote my show, so now I go into like 4-6 hours extra time for promotion which is:
Wiring the multilingual teaser for the Fediverse which seriously takes time (what was the fedi handle of that artist again?).
And then creating the SN teaser video for Radio Irrtum! is taking usually like 2 hours of (phun!) work... for those 10s teaser videos :)
And then uploading the show to my archive web server, writing some stuff about it and checking, if the website still works afterwards ;)
Doing all that is work indeed, on top of my day to day job. But it's fun nevertheless! That is what keeps me going since years now... Plus I'm always happy for the positive response I often receive afterwards. Not that I really "need" it, but boy... it feels so nice. Thank you for that!!!
Money wise I do it for free btw, no income plus ;) , more like 20-40 Eur costs for buying music on Bandcamp per show (which is fine).

I just saw over at "Linux Daw", that JoaCHIP has started porting old Jeskola Buzz Plugins like Arguelle¹'s TB4006 from around 2000 to Linux/#VST (also Windows and Mac, but who cares nowadays? ;) ) and I celebrate any of this!!

The Cyberia EP .
It's beautiful! Every. Single. Track.
Especially "Antidepressants". And "Logout (Earth)" really takes the cake. Wow.

Source: I recently digitized my cassette recordings from the 80s. Made with 2 cheap cassette recorders (and my "self invented" overdub technique), a battery powered mixer, a microphone and my super shiny Yamaha PSR-470 (it hadn't even Midi but I was totally privileged to have that in East Germany).
5 cassettes plus 2 without the Synth (then only my piano and kitchen pots mainly). Yeah, there is cringe material, no kidding. But also a lot of not half bad stuff. Surprise!!

I dunno most of what you do, it seems a lot. But I know your music and your music is so good.
I have a cassette deck from 1982 here, it has a wonderful sound and I love just changing a cassette, press play, and listen to it on this fallen out of time device.
On one of my cassettes I have your track "A Queen".

Whenever it comes up I'm totally astonished how well this is done, how lightweight it sounds and yet how deep it hits.
I also play it from exactly this cassette as the last track of my Creative Commons DJ sets. And I always observe how people stop talking to each other turning to the speakers and start bobbing dreamily.
That's your power. Please keep it, despite all the odds.

Totally interesting. The exact sweet spot between the old "depressive" The Cure ("One hundred years", "Cold") and the new much more playful The Cure ("The Walk". "Caterpillar").
I'm still impressed to hear so much tracks from their dark phase at this point in time; but I guess they simply hadn't enough new stuff ready yet: Why Can't I Be You is still in the future. On the other hand, Love Cats is missing, and that definitely was out already. Hmm. Playing with clichés then, ey?

a kewl 16 Bit #musicdisc with a twist: It's released on #AMIGA, #ATARIST and #ARCHIMEDES in parallel!
It feels unreal to be right between 2 kick ass tunes by FILIPPP and NOMISTAKE and on one disc together with legends like Vincenzo or Chavez.

German Interview that I conducted with Stephan/Schall und Stille… [so,err… lets switch to German]... vor knapp 2 Jahren, und was praktisch den Startschuss zu einer Entwicklung darstellt, die im Besuch an diesem langen Wochenende mündete (wir waren damals beide sehr aufgeregt, weil wir auch beide lange Zeit nicht mehr in einer Interview Situation waren).
