Dear The Internet Archive,
I would like to protest in the strongest possible terms about the lack of audio on that video.
Love & hugs,
Gorsefan.

@denodell@mastodon.social also, an interesting use of browser quirks is to give publishers a chance to react to a browser changing its implementation to be more standards conformant or chromium-consistent.
In this manner a quirk may be evidence of past non-conformance subsequently patched, where perhaps outreach by the vendor has failed

@denodell@mastodon.social hello! Interesting article - it took me back
Browser vendors have been doing this for at least 20 years, probably 30 tbh 😂
I think also the Interop project has done well in reducing cross-browser issues. Also important were specs including what to do with malformed content which I think started with html 5? - so browsers could at least fail in consistent ways

@BylinesEast yes, I’m a fan and have been for decades. I meant that the fans were angry about the incident and also the response by the club too. Thank you 💙

@BBCRD@social.bbc I was sceptical but this is really nice. Slight shame it doesn’t appear to use URLs to represent the state of what you’ve chosen - unless I’ve missed something! - which makes your selection not shareable and lost when you move between devices. As well as not being very “web”

What kind of idiot would put the phone chargers in a cupboard and then put 18 large boxes in front of it… 🤔🤔🤔

Just causing a users IP to be sent to a third party server without consent has run afoul of courts (the “Google fonts problem”) IF that service does not qualify for a “strictly necessary” exemption under the GDPR e.g: CDN for performance, shopping cart, security…
Analytics, ads, martech or related profiling is never exempt

Exception to previous point is if the site owner has a robust, GDPR-compliant Data Processing Agreement in place with the third party AND implicit consent is gathered by the site owner e.g. via a Terms Of Use page.
Most US companies will not be willing to/do not have a DPA like that in place for EU & UK publishers
Sorry for all that, but it is nuanced! 🤐

@BylinesEast the club has now responded and the fans are angry about that too. And rightly so. I wonder if the US background of the clubs CEO has coloured the response.

Breakbeat Era press release, Ronnie Size, Lennie Laws, DJ Die - June 1998. That’s enough for now - not sure what to do with them all, I have quite a stack! Maybe a different account or blog

@splitradix@assemblag.es I found that really interesting, thank you! Turns out the Wikipedia page is good on this

It immediately made me think of the concept of the kyriarchy in modern feminism

When I am looking at the world and thinking “whyyy” like a 5 year old, turns out the answer is often “because we are silly primates easily exploited by other, nastier primates”

@noybeu@mastodon.social @finnmyrstad@eupolicy.social @uc@mastodon.scot @marjolica@social.linux.pizza this model is known as “pay or OK” and there is already legal precedent for it not being ok. It’s high risk, and I was surprised to see it on the Guardian
If a user can subsequently easily opt out of tracking, before being tracked at all, that would mitigate
