So 99% of the maps we produce are conventionally oriented with north facing up. What do you think of people who insist every map has to have a north arrow? #cartography

Geoffrey Hinton: “If we don’t have AI regulations, we’re going to be in terrible trouble.”

This sentence is key :Human oversight must remain central, with validation and authorization processes required for high-impact decisions.
The article doesn't mention the biggest elephant in the room: nothing AI does is worth burning down the planet for.

@AtanasE@mastodon.social You could delete them, but next thing you know you'll have a client calling asking if you can resend the quad index from 2007.

This is a really beautiful video production, as well as being very interesting in its subject: Long term satellite records confirm the #borealForest has moved north by 23 km since 1985. It's a net gain of trees, which could be helpful for #carbon sequestration #biodiversity #climateChange https://nasa-ext.app.box.com/s/zp3qyzdgsi0xfqrcnctph5117f0s3sy1

As a Canadian #geospatial professional, it is the first time I have heard of #JMap or K2 Geospatial. Likely a "two solitudes" thing. But I am interested! Apparently there are 700+ organizational users - anyone out there? #K2Geospatial #CanadianGIS #geospatialDataSovereignty #gischat

I am going to write to the Minister of Industry asking this programme be restored. Maybe if there is a public outcry...and there should be! Canada was the 3rd country in space, has always been a leader in remote sensing technology and space robotics, this is our edge, let's not throw it away - again. This is our generation's Avro Arrow moment. Write to melanie.joly@ised-isde.gc.ca, cc Carney and your MP.

@Micha_Silver@fosstodon.org I'm not sure where to go with this.
