This week I shared data with three different external agencies. All chose to receive file geodatabases. Shapefiles were, of course, on offer. Declined.

for all its promise, pixelfed is so often down or just annoyingly slow as to be barely usable. in its current state it will never replace Instagram, sadly.

PSA: the "upgrade" to android 17 caused my pixel 8 to become unstable. randomly restarts at all times, including overnight when no active app is running. today Instagram crashed it with a series of cryptic AI error messages.

I don't know what the solution is. I tried everything, including factory reset. no change.

I will live with it for now, but I'm looking for an alternative longer term solution. graphene is obviously one, but that would mean giving up tap to pay and Google maps.

Sometimes the solution is to do less. Sometimes the best course of action is to take something away, not to add more. This is incomprehensible to people brought up in the culture of more. Where the thinking is that more is the solution to everything. If you have a problem, that's because you don't have enough of XYZ.

Televised sporting events need to have at least two and possibly three audio tracks for the viewer to choose from. One for the event itself, one for the commentators, and another for a second, competing set of commentators. Then the commentators can be promoted or demoted and paid based on how many viewers choose to listen to them.

One downside of changing email providers is that you have to retrain their spam filter all over again. But I'm happy to do it. Actually it gives me pleasure every time I hit the spam button for those miscreants I never even saw before.
