I don't love that this downed tree is blocking my driveway but I do like its decorations #fungusfridays

Look at this perfect little coziness! Probably from a potter wasp.
If only I had beautiful plumage this would be a pretty accurate self-portrait.
I've never seen a visibly pregnant snake before!
Ms. snake here spent a while hiding under a car, and then spent a while exploring the undercarriage, and then a while half-in and half-out of the wheel rims, and I hope that my attention convinced her that the woods are a better place for her babies than the mechanisms of a Toyota Prius.
On the one hand I hate that it is mosquito season; on the other hand I'm pretty sure that if the mosquito supply runs out these little monsters will start eating each other instead.
Having a big "not everyone was raised by Quakers" moment.
The last batch of Pantodon is doing well but they're still pretty tiny! 30 days old and I still need to sift their food.
The two prongs on the back of this spider shimmer as it walks so that from any distance it looks like a fly or a bee with wings. Very weird mimicry!
Photo taken in foothill jungle in northern Costa Rica.
Update: Turkeys are still super weird
A critter that's entirely new to me: long-eared owls. We spent a long time not seeing them and then, once we saw them, a long time laughing at their fashion choices.
Costa Rican immigrant geckos. I did see one native gecko last week (a yellow-headed) but didn't manage to get a photo.
One of my greatest complaints about living in Minnesota is the lack of lizards. My MN house is so, so full of beetles, even in February!
It's early spring which means my house is 2.5% asian beetles by weight.
Urchins look boring from a distance but up close they're super busy. Pseudoboletia sp.
First look at a sun bittern! It gave us a few glimpses of its wings before settling down to its meal.
