The US government has destroyed my online presence (email & website). No I'm not joking. I had my whole website emilyartist.ca hosted on Autistici/Inventati Noblogs platform, as well as my email. On Aug. 28, the US government declared Autistici/Inventati a terrorist organization due to their stated antifascist ethics. They're a tiny Italian volunteer-run web server that only supports people working for kindness, justice, and peace. Now I have to rebuild. #fascism #uspoli #peace

I inherited my father in law's excellent dissecting microscope and am enjoying it with abandon!! Voici a view of the surface of one of my seedling pots, complete with a springtail busily going about his important work, eating up (processing) the rotten bits to turn into plant nutrients! Thank you Sir Springtail!!
A happy reminder of the diversity that makes our lives possible.

Ach I've tried really hard to de-google. I've been on linux for a year+, moved blog from blogger to noblogs (huge job), moved hosting to Canadian, and switched emails to a small Italian antifascist provider and my own domain. Slowly realizing that many people's and institutions' systems only recognise gmail or hotmail emails. Mine is always going to spam. 😭 SO intensely frustrating!!!

Just deleted my protonmail account. I foolishly believed the hype last year, that Protonmail was a good route for an antifascist email option. It sucked. The functionality was awful (no I didn't pay for the upgrade!!) and now there just seems to be news after news about their *wee fascism problem*. Gad I'm relieved to be rid of them!!!

@littlealex@infosec.exchange a horrible plan. I once knew someone who "punished" land owners for cutting down trees by planting invasive bamboo to destroy their land and properties. It not only does that, but also destroys neighbouring properties and the ecology of the whole wider area. Shooting ones head off to spite the face.

Microplastics contamination in our gardening! I tend to forget that some compost might be high in microplastics, and honestly I rarely consider the many detriments that would bring.
Ashley is a Canadian soil scientist who makes youtube videos mainly explaining how soil quality and health impacts gardening outcomes.

It's been six years of Long Covid for me now, and honestly am SO much better than i was in 2020-2021 which I spent nearly all of in bed, with various inflammation-caused infections. Some people like me seem not to recover from this thing, but we can learn to manage it better. 🤍

@f_beaudet@cosocial.ca good advice! Another option is to just start using LibreOffice instead. It has the same features, can read & create MS Office documents, and is always free and open. I've been using it for over a decade and every time I try out someone's MS software I am reminded how much better LibreOffice is!! And it's free.

But we can build our own society alongside them. The party I had this weekend is part of this building, gathering like-minded people in person to remember where we come from and what we have to build and maintain. Mastodon is part of this; there will be other solutions at other times. We'll make it through because tyranny always dies.

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social thinking about this and the idea that far left in a circle still ends up in the same place as far right: conspiracy theories and lack of education for the poor and greed and domination for the rich. I think left vs right is far less meaningful than rich vs poor. BUT. It's not really so simple. I know plenty of folks who would fall one one of those 4 extremes but also don't fit the stereotype.
