@darthvader42@sueden.social If it works: For our emergency light systems we discourage the use of car batteries, they are highly optimized for starting a car, and are very sensible to not being fully charged. If you plan on keeping the ups running always, that should not be an issue. Else, look for non car batteries, dedicated UPS batteries maybe. Be careful with something completely different like Lifepo batteries, they can be overcharged over time.

@darthvader42@sueden.social I did a quick check of the manual, and it has an error state where it signals a bad battery. This is discouraging. You could check if it emits any status if you disconnect a battery, then connect just some random 12v car battery for testing. Don’t worry about capacity or currents, the spec says it typically charges a battery within 6 hours, so it charges with about 1.5 amps. A powercord from a broken household appliance can be misued for this. Just make sure to connect battery last

Wow, TIL: Mein Ikea Pax Schrank hat auch eine Demontageanleitung! Zyniker mögen jetzt argumentieren, so kompliziert, dass das nötig ist, lol! Aber das ganze ist ein Versprechen: wir haben dieses Möbelstück so designed, dass es demontiert transportiert und wieder aufgebaut werden kann. Das können viele Möbel nicht behaupten

@joebeone@techpolicy.social Nice! Im pretty sure I saw an article about this around 2000 where people send special images onto CRT screens that created correct dcf77 signals. But I can only find this reference for a similar hack with LCD screens(https://github.com/mazzoo/dcf77) The mobile phone is much more practical however.

Was beim Wechsel von Sprit auf Strom plötzlich viel greifbarer wird, wie viel Energie solche Transporte schlucken. 3MWh für eine Ladung von DE nach Norwegen. 726L Diesel klingt viel harmloser obwohl darin mehr als doppelt so viel Energie steckt.

Ich habe etwas total verrücktes getan und meinen gut bezahlten Job gekündigt, um wieder selbstständig zu werden. Ich habe so viel neues bei Zumtobel gelernt. Ich kam, um Webanwendungen zu bauen und gehe als einer der Verantwortlichen für die Notlichtsysteme und einer Experten zur Umsetzung der kommenden Cybersecurity Anforderungen. Eine wilde Mischung! Mal bin ich in Italien um Powerlineprobleme zu analysieren, ein anderes mal diskutieren wir, ob und wie eine Versionsnummer in eine DoC muss.

@dborch Ich war damals gemustert und zurückgestellt worden, weil ich zum Zeitpunkt der Einberufung schon das Grundstudium geschafft hatte. Ein halbes Jahr bevor ich mein Auslandssemester begann, hatte ich um Genehmigung für den Auslandsaufenthalt ersucht. Ich weiß nicht mehr genau ob ich die Erlaubnis 6 oder 12 Monate nach der Rückkehr bekam.

Ich habe dieses Werkzeug gekauft ohne zu wissen, dass ich es auch selbst hätte drucken können (Oder zu ähnlichem Preis im Etsy Store des Designers plus über 20 USD Versand) und muss sagen, es funktioniert super:

Habe vorne und hinten Beläge gewechselt und es ging mit wenig Kraftaufwand. Ich glaube, eine Bremse ist noch Original und damit 6J und 30Tkm alt.
Ich vermute, weil mit dem Tool die Kraft exakt in Zylinderrichtung geht, während beim Hebeln der Zylinder verkantet.

Ich wusste nicht, wie gut Akku Geräte geworden sind. Kx berichtete mir Donnerstag, sie hätte ihren letzten Fahrradschlüssel verloren, und das Rad steht an der Schule. Freitag ging es für Kx direkt los zu den Schwiegereltern. Also musste ich das Problem allein lösen, und mit einem 12 Volt Winkelschleifer war die Kette in 23 Sekunden auf. Decathlon gibt dem Schloss 5/10 in Sicherheit.

@unixtippse@mastodon.online You could create a string like object that overwrites __str__ and __repr__ to not expose its value. When you pass it to logs, you won’t see the password. Would not work with smarter things like sentry.

Die LED wird zwar auch schwächer mit der Zeit, aber nicht soo viel. Wobei ich keine Ahnung habe, ob das noch 20 Jahren immer noch vernachlässigbar ist. Aber bis dahin ist eh schon irgendwas anderes gestorben für das es keinen Ersatz mehr gibt. Aber wie wie bleibt der Lichtleiter sauber?

@plexus@toot.cat But it is the same for software. Making bulletproof software is more work meaning later time to market, meaning slower growth or even loosing market share. An engineer doesn’t want to go into tech debt, because he knows he only gets credit from loan sharks and somehow management finds ways to ignore interest payments and even ways to blame the engineer for the interest payments.
