We cannot believe these 5 days are over 😭 The ‘Text as data’ #DHSpringSchool has reached its end, but the spring continues to blossom — and so do #DigitalHumanities 🌸🌸🌸
Digital Humanities Uni Potsdam
Digital Humanities Network at the University of Potsdam
Currently run by @skorinkin@hcommons.social
MiMoTextBase is a project aiming to build a "Wikidata for literary history", which can be queried together with the actual Wikidata using the approach called federated queries — @christof@fedihum.org, @MariaHinzmann@fedihum.org, and Julia Röttgermann present federated queries for literary studies at the linked open data and literary studies conference.

The joint team of @unipotsdam@wisskomm.social & @fontanearchiv@bird.makeup at the #DHd2024 conference. It was a week full of talk about LLMs, GPT, CLS, TEI, OCR, TTS, RDM, and other fancy acronyms which define the present and will likely shape the future of #DigitalHumanities
Quo Vadis DH? Well, now we have an idea 😎👌
'We originally planned a tiny event with 5-6 talks, now we are at 18' — @umblaetterer@chaos.social launching (presumably the largest) the Linked Open Data and Literary Studies conference at @freieuniversitaet@berlin.social
Apparently, 750 networks from the German Drama Corpus get you the 1st place at the #DHd2026 poster award! Congrats to the @dracor.org team! 🎉

AI research interfaces, oral-history transcription, big text corpora, linguistic geodata — today’s DH Day at @unipotsdam@wisskomm.social showed just how wide the #DigitalHumanities spectrum in Potsdam really is. 🚀 Just launched the #DigitalHumanities Early Career Fellowship at @unipotsdam@wisskomm.social ✅
In the first class, we turned historical sources into data with OCR, discussed “what counts as data” in the humanities, did some metadata modeling, and met a wonderful new cohort of young researchers!

Shakespeare is beaten by a student assistant! 😲
The 3rd World Championship in #battleoftheplays (formerly #dramenquartett, aka ‘Brecht beats Shakespeare’) took place at the #DraCorSummit. 20 participants competed in intense matches – after a thrilling finale, Tabeer Khilji of
@unipotsdam@wisskomm.social took the cup home! 🏆 Congratulations! 🎉 #dracor

The #DraCorSummit Barcamp turned into an actual camp 🏕️
Discussing characters & types on #DraCor under apple trees🌳
Waiting for a Newtonian 🍏 eureka 😜
…and then comes the Bar part 🥂
Barcamp is the place to address the questions that normally die quietly right after a hasty 2–3 minute Q&A at a conference… but now in a bigger timeframe — @peertrilcke@fedihum.org kicks off the #DraCorSummit Barcamp

From gardens on stage to animals in metaphor: Mareike
@mkschumacher.bsky.social , Marie Flüh & Felix Lempp analyze 680 German dramas for ecological presence. Their study shows how stage directions remain human-centered, while speech creates a more diverse “Wortkulisse” of habitats, plants & creatures.

Capitalist LLMs are eating our smart & open humanities data and mashing it into gigantic word porridge... How can we reverse it? — @peertrilcke@fedihum.org speaks about the MCP-empowered LLM Usage of #DraCor (or "How to teach Claude use the DraCor API")

What is a scene in a novel? And how do we teach computers to detect them? (SPOILER: no, tossing it into the latest GPT does NOT solve it!) A deep & thoughtful study of ✂️scene segmentation✂️ in US romance novels by @SvenjaGuhr@fedihum.org, Huijun Mao, Fengyi Lin, Alexander Sherman, and Mark Algee-Hewitt:
https://github.com/literarylab/scene_segmentation
A great combo of theoretical grounding and extensive practical testing!
Do LLMs turn coders into „code-readers“ / „evaluators“? How do we teach Python when every beginner student can generate code that’s better and more complex than anything they can master in years of learning? Is the old teaching pipeline with data types, if-else-s, loops, functions and so on… DONE? Shall we teach code interpretation like complex text interpretation? Discussing at #DH2025
Stylo package got the Antonio Zampolli prize 🏆🎉
Congrats to Maciej Eder, Mike Kestemont, Jan Rybicki, Joanna Byszuk, and everyone involved with the Computational Stylistics Group! 👏👏👏
The prize is awarded every 3 years for outstanding output in #DigitalHumanities Previous recipients were Voyant Tools, TEI, Ray Siemens, and Chad Gaffield

🧑🏫💻 Will chalkboards survive in the digital world? We were surprised to see how useful this old-fashioned medium proved to be during our #DHSpringSchool — workshop leaders were so eager to use it for quick explanations 💁 Here Artjoms Şeļa is asking the participants to rate their lunch at @unipotsdam@wisskomm.social’s Mensa and immediately plots the distribution with chalk (to end up with a nice Gaussian)
