They're stuck on that old Algol trope where it calculates n! by invoking reentrant copies of itself until it counts down to 1. Of course the result explodes quickly, and having n copies of it fills up memory in a machine with ~100K of RAM. But the Algol weenies love their simple looking function.

My programming experience, that which was actually used for anything, was deeply embedded in the hardware, it was assembly/machine or C. One stint with a VLIW machine, for, somethingorother. Pascal was like C with a stuck capslock key .. But I never cared for the 'OO' stuff -- management made us take ADA classes and shit. And the Pascal vendors came out with 'OO' Pascal, and C with C++. So we used it, sometimes. I worked on an embedded telecomm project in the '90s, it was in C. But don't think I did much useful work after '93 or so...

the skyscrapers weren't all that full -- a lot of floors were unoccupied. & a lot of floors did not comply with environmental regulations because of asbestos contamination. the twin towers were a vertical slum, due for some very expensive maintenance, or even more expensive demolition.
