Here's a UX tip: if I am actively interacting with your website -- meaning I'm typing in the search box or I have clicked on a dropdown menu -- DON'T POP A MODAL!

An absolutely fascinating article with tons of evidence that most all claims of data center capacity are just PR spin. A small fraction of announced data center capacity actually comes online. Most of the projects are either stuck in construction hell or were just lies and exaggeration to start with. https://www.wheresyoured.at/where-are-all-the-data-centers/
You are an absolute cash cow to Google. https://proton.me/blog/what-is-your-data-worth-to-google
When people gamble on the news, they can get really upset about small details in a news report. https://www.timesofisrael.com/gamblers-trying-to-win-a-bet-on-polymarket-are-vowing-to-kill-me-if-i-dont-rewrite-an-iran-missile-story/
Playing around with binary search in C#.
I have a JSONL file with 1,000,000 lines. Each line is a full JSON document, including a unique ID property.
Creating a binary index of these IDs takes less than one second. The position of the ID in the index corresponds to the line number of the data in the JSONL file.
Binary search of 1,000,000 numeric IDs takes 5-ish ms.
Then we have have the line number, and reading that line takes 250-ish ms.

I hate how WNBA team names are so unaggressive. The Tempo? Aces? Mystics?
I want Cleveland's Bloodthirsty Napalm Zombies.
I guess the era of fiction digests never really ended.
I have noticed that the hype around GraphQL has cooled a bit. Some interesting comments in this Reddit thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/1szk144/graphql_used_to_be_popular_but_that_doesnt_seem/
I'll be speaking at @umbraco@umbracocommunity.social CodeGarden in Copenhagen in June.

A sobering article that explains how Iran has basically hamstrung the most powerful navy in the world. The gist: shore-based anti-ship missiles are the new power in naval warfare. https://responsiblestatecraft.org/iran-strait-of-hormuz/
I finished the novel "Project Hail Mary" at 1:00 p.m. I was in the theater, watching the movie, at 2:30.
I love you JavaScript (not really), but the whole import/require, ESM vs. CommonJS thing is an absolute mess. It's been 11 years since ESM became a standard, and I'm still running into issues (like Jest being sorta ESM-hostile).
I just can't stop chuckling about "Mary's Igloo, Alaska."

I'm genuinely interesting in publishing on Gemini. Recently, Kevin Boone has published out there, and I see it as an non-commercial alternative to the web. I feel like it might gain traction among a Usenet-ish crowd for academic and scientific publishing.

At San Francisco airport, you can apply for a pass to get through security even if you're not flying anywhere. So you can take someone all the way to their gate, meet someone at their gate, or just hang out in the airport. Handy for very young or very old travelers, I'm sure. https://www.flysfo.com/passengers/services/gate-explorer
Episode 7 of "Paradise" was the single greatest episode of television I have ever seen.
I met Ted Turner once at a South Dakota Governor's pheasant hunt. I was a huge fan of CNN in my 20s -- I kept Headline News on the TV constantly. He wasn't a perfect man, clearly, but I admired what he had accomplished. RIP.

Write .NET in Lisp, meaning the syntax is Lisp but it compiles to .NET IL and runs under the .NET runtime. https://github.com/dotcl/dotcl
FYI: Astro sites run really well on Cloudflare workers. Both modes, static and SSR. No-effort deploy via Wrangler. It's a great option for tiny, throwaway websites that you don't want to put a whole lot of thought into.
27 years ago, I was learning how to escape quotes in SQL.
I would really like to try this sometime. https://claude.ai/share/12653d24-3a1a-45aa-83fb-433dfab944f3
LeBron James is widely considered to be one of the great 2-3 basketball players in history.
Also, when the next Laker game happens, he will set the record for the most NBA games played by anyone, ever. He's been playing for 23 seasons.
To be THAT good for THAT long is just a class by itself. For that reason, I'm moving him above Jordan in my mental roster. And I have always been a Jordan-forever guy.
KVMs suck. I've been through two of them, and they're just not that good. Lots of screen artifacts, flickering, and blackouts.
TIL that you can't detect CORS errors from JS code in the browser. If your fetch results in a CORS error, it happens at the browser level, outside of JS. All you can do is catch the error and make assumptions as to what caused it.
In all my years of tech conference, I have never seen someone giving out Tide pens as a booth gift.
I get that Jest is the leading JS test suite, but why is it so hostile to ESM code? I just spent an hour trying to get it running before abandoning it for Vitest.
