@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I'm one of the first Boomers and I have helped several immigrants or homeless people hunt for jobs. Those "help wanted" signs in shop windows are a joke. Go to the library, use their computer to fill out an application designed for all jobs ever, requiring a personality screening to see if you are a "team player" for a damned min wage job in a carwash. Then be told thanks, now look for an email (oops, get an email account; check inbox daily at library) if chosen for interview.

Of all the New Testament stories like the Sermon on the Mount, casting out the moneychangers, "Let the little children come", Christians had to pick a couple of unbelievable tales to celebrate. The whole star and 3 wise men thing on top of "virgin birth", and the raising from the dead, timed to co-opt the Springtime celebrations in most cultures for recruitng purposes, and the invention of "saints" to satisfy converts who wanted their elves and fairies really soured me on the religion early.

@broadwaybabyto that can only happen if he is arrested by the state or city police and tried in a state court. Otherwise the regime will announce in a day or two that they investigated and confirmed their initial lies and give him a medal. Maybe chump will invite him to WH and give the medal of freedom.

@Strandjunker@mstdn.social Absolutely. Most of the animal kingdom have it right. Females propagate the species. They produce males for one reason only: to pass on some of their DNA to another female so natural selection can keep honing the design. Drone bees have one function in life. Black widows and mantises even eat the male to recycle nutrients wasted on the sob. Elephant herds are females. Most female mammals allow only one winner to fertilize. He things he's hot shit.

RE: @ThomHartmann@mstdn.social

"Every senator, every congressperson, every governor, every mayor, every Democratic surrogate who goes on television needs to be trained to say the words “rightwing media bias” early and often, not occasionally, but constantly, institutionally, the same way Republicans “worked the refs” for thirty years."

@emptywheel Thank you for this. Since I don't intend to pore through it myself, but rather to rely on several experts like you to give the highlights and any possible special nuggets, this provides exactly the broad understanding of what's happening I seek. As always, your hard work and insight are invaluable.

@lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org just did some reading on pdp history - learned the 11/34 was introduced in 1976. The company I joined as Technical Director had purchased ours before I was hired in July. We must have had one of the very first. The RSX11M OS had no print spooler. You got hard copy via a DCL command to copy to the printer. If two were sent at same time you got both files intermingled! 😀 I wrote an app to manage a queue. Used it for several weeks until OS upgrade came with spooler. #IWriteShelfware

Business Insider

At Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk was a jerk with a grand vision. At Twitter, he's just a jerk.

Elon Musk has used the same playbook at all of his companies from Tesla to SpaceX. Sadly for him, his model will cause Twitter to go down in flames.

It is war.

@tzimmer_history@mastodon.social I hope we have our own "Arab Spring" We've had a couple of massive, nationwide demonstrations, both organized & executed by women. They turned out in red states too. We need something like those but far bigger, more diverse, longer lasting. Block all the roads in and out of every city. Block nationwide interstates like I-70 and I-80. Create traffic jams that will take days to dissipate. Yes, I know all this impedes emergency services. Collateral damage.

@shuttersparks@qoto.org @lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org @EugestShirley@m.ai6yr.org yeah IBM was heady competition, especially fr big systems integration projects. I was assigned as Customer Program Manager on several of those competitions. Our biggest coup against them was the Space Station Freedom Software Integration Facility in Clear Lake. One of the first VAX9000 wins. DEC called the 9k the "mainframe killer." I worked in that facility until the SSF program was mothballed. #IWriteShelfware

@atrupar You can get a verification that a website you link to is yours, that you have access to its html code. See green highlighted links on my profile as examples. The :verified: is something you can add yourself to your handle. It made a blue check but they disabled when Tw chaos came. I'm not aware of any vetting of it. I guess it is an "honor system." If you dont see a green link dont trust the person to be whom they say they are. I hope this helps; corrections welcome.

@rbreich@masto.ai he cares only about "winning" personally. if he had to kill 10 million American citizens to get Iranian leaders to bow down and say "your word is our command, oh master" he'd do it in a flash. He'd give them every dem leader and demand a ringside seat for mass beheadings if they gave him the satisfaction of somehow "winning."

@jbf1755@mastodon.social they saw that expulsion did not work in Tennessee so used a different ploy to suppress opposition. Her district should shut them down. This calls for the kind of civil unrest we had in '60s and '70s. It's the same shit. Nixon declared all oponents of the VN War to be "dirty hippies" (now it's "antifa"). I was watching a woman in a peasant dress putting flowers in rifle barrels at a peaceful march on the Pentagon when a tear gas grenade popped behind me. Make them do that.
