@moof@cupoftea.social @quixoticgeek@social.v.st so, to summarise the last three hours: they got to Berlin Hbf, spent a while locating lockers and then trying to make a connection, struggling with the...extent of that station. then got on several S-Bahns, initially missing their stop, to assemble a 5km thermo... which I vetoed, feeling only a bit bad after the half hour it took them.

Well. We got curse of the long shot-ed, which we just barely solved with the aid of the Strava trace. and then we spent the entire wait for the train there recovering from the stress. But I can now say: we are in the End Game.

I appear to have hit some snags along that way, courtesy of DB. not to worry, though, I ended up back on track eventually... you can read in the threads of @moof@cupoftea.social and @quixoticgeek@social.v.st what they did, but it appears they have me narrowed down to the north half of the country, and also neither Berlin nor Brandenburg. Let's see what their next move is once they reach Berlin...

Cool. It's impossible to check into trams from Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof (Vorplatz) on Traewelling? Because Hauptbahnhof (Vorplatz) is Hbf, and Hbf is Poststraße, and I can't override either of those "equivalences" because why would I want to be that precise, it's enough to be mostly right, right??

We have since done a thermo between Braunschweig and Hildesheim, conforming a much smaller target area, and then asked if her Bundesland starts with the same letter as ours (N for Niedersachsen - it does). We then asked if she was closer or further to a foreign consulate, leaving a fairly small circle of Niedersachsen (and a bit of NRW well out of reach to her). We then got asked "yes or no", and got the answer right, so this game shall remain unchanged. However, we have been compelled to pray to a deity before we may proceed.

hot take: the fact neither gitlab nor gitea/forgejo nor github have ever considered it worthwhile to be able to locally test and run CI actions is a massive oversight that make for an absolute nightmare of debugging unless you basically remove all logic from your actions and just have them run scripts you can also use locally
also: the github "marketplace" style approach of just importing someone else's code was a terrible idea, it's all the problems of excessive dependencies in the ecosystem of every "modern" programming language but made worse and trusted with all your prod secrets

@_r@donotsta.re @elsactivitypub@goto.freakstic.fr the main issue is probably that the wheel profiles between trams and trains are substantially different, requiring different switches etc. For lines that run tram trains (i.e. trams that run on mainline rail) weird compromises need to be made that kind of but don't quite work for either
