Doing things @fsfe
Google’s plan to force every developer who distributes apps, even outside the Play Store, into its verification system is a direct threat to smaller and independent #FreeSoftware developers.
We can’t let this happen, especially now.
We will keep our eyes wide open 👀
#Apple keeps challenging its #interoperability obligations under the #DMA
In recent months, my colleagues and I at the @fsfe@mastodon.social have been analysing Apple's compliance with #DMA's Article 6(7), following the EU Commission's specification decision.
Our report analysed 56 formal requests, resulting in zero solutions developed by Apple until now. Apple rejects JIT compilation, NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy Audio, often contradicting their own technical documentation. And they still charge developers $99 to submit a request, despite the law requiring interoperability to be free of charge.
Here is a summary of the report: https://fsfe.org/news/2026/news-20260420-01.en.html
and a sunny Bruxelles makes everything even more enjoyable 🌞
At the @fsfe@mastodon.social we've just shared our views with the #UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on #Apple’s proposed “interoperability commitments” under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (#DMCCA).
Such weak requirements will deem interoperability ineffective, entrenching #Apple's monopolistic power in #UK's digital market.
The solution should be the enforcement of "interoperability-by-design". A broad #interoperability mandate is key for healthy and competitive digital markets.
#DigitalNetworksAct and #RouterFreedom
For more than a decade, the Free Software Foundation Europe has worked to protect #RouterFreedom in Europe.
The European Union is about to reform the telecom sector, and we call for a clear and harmonised approach that upholds the freedom of terminal equipment across all Member States.
