Is there a word for "body language accent" and is there a body of literature on this subject that I could find if I had the right keywords?

I mean things like styles of sitting attributed regionality ("asian squat", "western toilet"), levels of physicality in speech ("gag an italian by handcuffing them"), also things like the way a lot of white American men will have been trained to pitch a ball with a certain posture that reminds you of specifically baseball, or how nearly everyone who went through the Finnish school system has a certain angle to the way they sit. This way of holding oneself and expressing oneself which seems like actually the deepest level of cultural identification for many.

@AdrianRiskin @joyfulcarla Yeah, I think Dahl was on to something with his willingness to let genuine nastiness into childrens' stories, however there are many kinds of it which he was clearly taking the wrong side on, in ways that were not excusable at any point. I adored his writing around ages 6-7, at one point I declared I would not read any other author, and I'm pretty sure it's because this sense of genuinely fucked up stuff going on was more relatable than most stuff aimed at children. The Trunchbull feels real as a terrifying authority villain when you're six, and it's super engaging, then you grow up and go "hmm, why was such a big deal made of how she used to be a hammer thrower"

@joyfulcarla there is no way in hell the intention was to teach kids about radical politics, given roald dahl was all kinds of oppressive and conservative, but "danny, champion of the world" definitely left an impression in a way you kind of only can if you don't look like you're trying

does anyone else remember the degree of discourse that went on in the early 2010s about people who take testosterone without identifying as men socially

of course, "you don't have to transition you can just be a gender nonconforming woman you know", but if your gender nonconforming womanhood extends to taking testosterone, then actually you need to identify 100% as a man right now so that anyone who is triggered by your voice or beard doesn't have to apologise for reacting to you "like a man"

the way people were being like "you think you can get out of accountability for what you're doing?" about it, you'd think letting your voice drop an octave and letting your chest get hairy was some kind of war crime

gosh i wonder why everyone who could avoid engaging with feminism left these communities, leaving only a bunch of queer people who were 2% more masculine than the party line to take the full force of the perma probation

@miiamustang No mutta eikö ole? Eikö tekee mieli hyppäämään tai kokeilla leukanvetoa, kun on tullut semmonen kunnollinen, jonka jälkeen tuntuu kevyemmältä? Vai olenko sillä outoa :D

@KimCrayton1@dair-community.social You saying "the work will be there when you get back" made a penny drop for me regarding why Northern Europeans are so "work first, joy later". Like I didn't grow up here, so having moved here as an adult, even as a white person it's like "everything I've ever heard about x or y 'white mindset', these people do even harder than white people elsewhere do". The thing is, until like... one generation, maybe two generations ago in the southern areas, it was not the case that the work will still be there when you get back. If you didn't go to the woods when the berries are ready, there would be NOTHING there in 2 weeks, and the amount you pick in autumn is the amount you get for the whole next 12 months. Preparation for next winter started the moment the midsummer bonfire had burned. Understanding that this anxiety is baked into their bone marrow helped me accept the way they are. To be clear I agree it's interpersonally much healthier to be a "joy for the journey" type. I hope we can move past that "in two weeks the berries are GONE gone and that's it till next year, if we don't focus on getting all of this done before we rest, we are eating one of the kids come February" mindset into something better. Because for anything other than sub-arctic subsistence farming-huntering-gathering, you do not need it, and "whoever is the most like that" definitely no longer needs to be a basis on which white people select leaders.

@yenndc@kolektiva.social Literally even at the time there were people accusing butch women of having a sort of "masculine privilege" which related to the "femme experience" in the way male privilege related to womens'. So like, butch lesbians being called out for their "privileged behaviour" whenever they failed to defer to more gender-conforming women and their perspective in every discussion.

I don't wanna jinx it but I have felt shockingly free of the various "everyone asks me if I have long covid" symptoms for a week now. Still not at full capacity but I managed some weighted pullups this morning - a month ago that kind of effort would have made my head spin so much I needed to do nothing for a couple of hours.

I suspect I will have a little relapse again after the first couple of good weeks, but I think we're on the tiring, but hopefully rewarding uphill crawl

RE: @TinJar@mastodon.social

I wish this was happening where my mum lives on Leòdhas. Energy is so expensive there that people who stopped burning peat years ago are doing it again. The ageing community there would love initiatives like this.

@nakafeero@masto.nu Hey, I noticed that at the top of your post, you say you will not name the country or the specific refugee camp due to safety concerns. But in the sidebar, it names Kakuma camp, and Kenya and South Sudan. Is it meant to be this way?

anyway though now that I understand how this procedure works, wild that nobody has used it to make a giant hair tattoo on their back or something, because the potential of this technology is so much weirder than just returning hairlines to their former state. like seemingly you can take a hair from anywhere on the body and implant it anywhere else if you can keep that new implant zone clean and untouched for a few days

made a bunch of pie mincemeat (the kind that is made of candied peel, dried fruit, nuts, spices, and rum, and has no actual meat) in december, and now i absolutely can't be fucked to make pie crust to cook it in. i have however discovered that adding a couple of big scoops of it to the batter really enhances a carrot or sweet potato cake, it's also good as an ice cream flavour, kind of an enhanced rum and raisin

@JankaWessman the amount my memory and learning capacity improved when I ditched the notifications machine (stopped using a smartphone) is something I would love to see real research into sometime, because I truly doubt I was the only one suffering from the same issues. But most people are not bull-headed enough to pull off smartphone free life these days.

@doboprobodyne@mathstodon.xyz @TheComfortableSpotPodcast@mastodon.social @brucelawson@social.vivaldi.net @jebantyk@mastodon.cloud I went and found the Scotland-specific legal guide written up by British Naturism, it seems that they could have been fully in the buff and there would not have been anything inherently illegal about it. If they swore at someone who told them to put a top on though, it might be! Police sometimes detain naked ramblers anyway, but this is in spite of the law. https://www.bn.org.uk/files/file/739-legal-guides-public-place-naturism//
