@hugo@social.treehouse.systems 4.5 bn is the age of the earth itself, I think. The debate on the solid inner core is between two different methods of measuring. Upper bound is 4.2 bn by thermal model. Paleomagnetic points to 0.5 bn: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth's_inner_core#Paleomagnetic_evidence

@dalias is near universal that the people of countries are majority against waging wars with other countries, yet wars exist. Crazy. I think we should have laws everywhere that stating foreign military operations should require a referendum. Getting invaded obviously requires much faster reaction than that.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica/117281708855474056 “the destruction was apparently even more widespread for the data centers in the Bahrain region, because Amazon said it was unable to restore access to resources and data across all three availability zones there.” Turns out it’s not three availability zones if it’s all the same war zone.

@hugo@social.treehouse.systems I don’t think there’s quite consensus on this one yet, but the current leading theory about the age of the inner solid iron core of the earth says it’s about 500 million years old. So just “a bit” older than sharks, apparently.

Another case of techbros getting consent arse-backwards; assuming the whole world is opt-in by default unless each individual explicitly opts-out: https://github.com/bigcode-project/opt-out-v2 I hadn't heard about this at all until today.
