I’d just plain had ENOUGH Lord of the Flies and bloody Bridge to Terabithia & all that stuff. It was like the teachers were TRYING to put me even more at risk than I already was. The English head teacher said I was making a lot of fuss over nothing, so my mum rang the Principal, who forced the English HT to read the book then do the assignment & offer me the option of doing an alternative. Suck eggs, Mr Caine.

@jpm@aus.social what do you get the waveforms from with that? Can you just… like…. touch one end to your dog’s toebean, and watch toebean waveforms?

I like rehearsing and then hitting the stage having forgotten it so my hands & voice can just do their thing and I can turn my brain off. Don’t like using my brain on stage. Who needs it. Potato mode is best.

If they’re incorrectly correcting someone in an area I know well & my chronically-shit MH isn’t in “we can’t do this today” mode, I’ll do some sort of “well, actually” thing, but this stands in conflict with what actually has the best chance at inspiring change in similar sorts of people. Better information (well, in their minds, “humiliation”) doesn’t work, because they’re not doing it in the interests of learning, like we are. They’re just ego-wanking.

@pheonix@hachyderm.io I totally did this with my sketches. Some of them come up ok, some are so terrible, but it’s not the point, and I was sharing one each day there for a while no matter what it was. And it really helps me. Good on you for saying this. I agree lots and lots.

@Susan60@aus.social Honestly I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for these kids. I just read all these things you’ve said again. You give me so much hope. I’ve had such a disappointing lifelong experience of most teachers, except the ones I had at St Paul’s. Not 1 bad teacher there. I was just already too traumatised to stay. It’s a bit sad. I feel sorry for my mum. She tried. But it was too late. I couldn’t cope with a truly safe environment. It felt weird, foreign.. unsafe to me. @andyjennings@aus.social

I was doing it back on Twitter to avoid the trolls or whatever, but since then, it’s almost like we’re all feeling collectively nauseated just by the sight of his surname, and that’s why I think I was still doing it… not even realising that’s what I was doing. I think it started that way for me during Morrison’s PMship…. just not even wanting to TYPE it, for the gross feelings that immediately come up like hurl….
