CCK is based at The Lockon, a squatted pub in #Cambridge #UK. We cook 300+ hot vegan meals twice a week, and deliver them for free across the city. We have no owners, no managers, and no government funding. We are intentionally not a charity; we are a mutual aid collective where decisions are made by consensus – nobody is in charge. Each session requires around 25 volunteers, who all take on shifts ad hoc, as they wish.

Founded Nov 2020, and thriving.

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net @tinker@infosec.exchange @PhoenixSerenity@beige.party Thanks @afewbugs@social.coop for the mention. I reckon we fit the bill for the Internet of Kindness. ☺️ We're an anarchist collective at heart, with a volunteer list of 2000+ local people who have, since 2020, offered their time to be part of what we do. Every Thursday and every Sunday, we cook around 450 hot meals, and fulfill 130+ separate delivery orders (with around 25 of them having some kind of dietary requirement). Everything runs for free. No-one pays for food, and no-one is paid for making it. There's no means test at all to "qualify" – we believe everyone has a right to fresh, nutritious food, and we deliver to literally anyone who asks. We have no owners, no managers, no trustees, no governors. We operate from a squat in the centre of Cambridge. We have a 5-star hygiene rating in our kitchen. We're proud of the community that we're building, and invite anyone local to get involved in any capacity, including eating the food!

We had a visit from an Environmental Health Officer today for a hygiene inspection, and look what he left behind for us 🤩
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We've had a 4-star rating for a few years, and we're delighted to have made it a 5. A special shout out today to cooking team leaders and our cleaning volunteers in particular – you're doing an amazing job for the community, and you're doing it *well*. 🙂

Hey, it's been 10 days since the last shout out for volunteers, so you know what that means, right? 😃 It means we had five whole sessions with enough people stepping up to clean, to cook, to deliver, to host, to clean again, and to coordinate. But all good things come to an end, and it's looking a bit thin on the rotas for today, so if you're in #CambridgeUK and wasn't to indulge your passion for #mutualaid for a couple of hours in between 12:30 and 20:30, now would be an excellent time to do so! We look forward to hearing from you.

Hey, folkx of #CambridgeUK, it's not for every shift that we need to cast the net out to find deliver volunteers, but today is once again such a day. So if you're feeling lacklustre about that evening in the pub for the footie, here's your perfect excuse! Hop on your bike or into you car, and come and deliver 20 portions of fresh hot food to some part of the city. We now have 16 deliver routes to be covered, every Thursday and every Sunday. Can you help? #MutualAid #plantbased

People of #Cambridge! Could I interest you in a ride around the city this evening, delivering hot meals and good cheer as you go? Apply within.

No experience necessary. Just bring your own bike (or cargo bike, motorbike, car, pogo stick, whatever you prefer) along with a smartphone for navigation.

Every Thursday and every Sunday, we rely on 15 deliver volunteers stepping up to take one of our delivery routes. We need 3 more for this evening's session. Could it be you?

Boosts appreciated, especially if you have friends and followers in #CambridgeUK

Here's that message again, in the form of a ransom note! That's not meant to sound as threatening as it could😆

This afternoon, our kitchen crew of 7 cooks and cleaners have prepared a Moroccan Spiced Stew, and a Creamy Kale & Chickpea Stew.

Our order book stands at 355 portions today, with 151 delivery orders to fulfil (including 34 separate dietary requirements). We prepare and deliver this hot food for free.

We're short of 1 delivery volunteer tonight, so 13 riders and drivers will take on 14 delivery routes, planned out and delivered to smartphones by our own software (which we'd be delighted to share with other orgs on request).

We have no owners, no trustees, no managers, no salaries. We do this out of solidarity with the community of our city, 52 weeks of the year, for 5 years now and counting.
