I live in a house with a spouse and cairn terrier (Bennie) on Treaty 6 territory and homeland of the Metis 🇨🇦 :metis:

I retired in 2018 from a compliance position at a multinational. Now I twiddle around the house between volunteering, hanging out with Bennie & reaping the rewards of having a spouse with a greenhouse & 3D printing interests.

Interests include tech, occupational health & safety and science-based health & wellness. Volunteering is the antidote to social media. I am Canadian.

I don't think I've read as brutal an indictment against a culture as this one by @pluralistic@mamot.fr

Heading to Canada for your holiday? If Alberta is part of your trip, measles is running rampant there as well. Don't make it your holiday memento; get vaccinated.

I do NOT feel heard.

This just confirms how expensive and time consuming it is to collect signatures. It makes the 500,000+ signatures collected to stay in Canada in a short time even more impressive.

The time for change is at the polls, but you know that. Decrease quality of life early enough in your term and people will get used to it and you can demonize the opposition saying how much worse it could have been…even though under the NDP we got seamless public service labour negotiations and higher minimum wage…oh and a federally funded pipeline.

It's funny how the question is never standard time vs. changing clocks. Enjoy your long dark wet November mornings for marginally less gloom on winter evening.

Reactions range from applause to concern as March 8 will be the last time most British Columbians have to change their clocks, B.C. Premier David Eby announced Monday.

The majority of Albertans don't want to separate nor do we want to remain on DST…both of which the premier is pushing. I can only hope our border city will get the choice to opt into Central time like Saskatchewan have the option to surrounding communities to opt into Mountain time.

@dyckron@mstdn.ca it was only Lloyd feeder communities that chose MST.

RE: @brianvastag@mas.to

E-books are very expensive for libraries. Return them as soon as you're done especially if there's a wait list. If you're not picking it up to keep reading, return it and put another hold on it.

There's a huge greenhouse that was built for cannabis production that could be acquired and repurposed. With the UCP flip flop on renewables, and support of separatists, what business would risk investing here? https://www.moneysense.ca/earn/benefits/unpacking-the-proposed-canada-groceries-and-essentials-benefit/ #abpoli

Perhaps more people are planning for retirement than it seems. If you use the TFSA you are tax sheltered on withdrawal and there is no mandatory withdrawal after 71 - unlike RRSPs. It's the retirement vehicle I would suggest to someone comfortably living within their means. I can see government concern though, if people aren't deferring taxes, it loses a revenue stream as people retire. We used RRSPs like good little Boomers/Gen X and we'll be converting to RRIFs in a higher tax bracket than we were ever in when we were working. I look at it as a mark of financial planning success and I don't resent paying taxes but I would have kept a lot more in taxable investment accounts. #RetirementSavinghttps://www.moneysense.ca/save/retirement/with-pensions-declining-canadians-must-plan-their-own-retirement/

File under one weird thing… I got an insurance payout after I was hit by a car; no tax due. When my dad died there was no tax on inheritance (his estate was taxed). Casino winning generally no taxes if you have a regular job. Canadians are soaked in USA media and often assume we are taxed on things USians are. #taxtimehttps://www.moneysense.ca/save/taxes/unexpected-money-heres-what-canada-taxes/

I've always wondered why AB separatists don't just emmigrate to the US. I put it down to selfishness, they're unwilling to give up their base of Canadian wealth, or a disqualifying criminal past.

This guy falls under - why not both?

How about we use the word confabulations instead of hallucinations for the unwitting lies LLMs feed into data. Also a polysyllabic word and more precise.

Seems humans have an expiration value. Not a big surprise. Humans evolved under specific conditions and our bodies have narrow operational parameters.

@rogerb@mastodon.scot @angusm@mastodon.social @cstross@wandering.shop same as the Alberta separatists…they think they'll get statehood because oil but would become a territory with subjected to put wages and unleashed pollution.
