@nycki@bark.lgbt @wallabra@bark.lgbt You may have been joking, but xkcd actually was originally his handle/pseudonym, and predates the comic! He chose it as four random letters that were unique and wasn't pronounceable as a word, used it as a handle, and registered the domain. When he eventually started using the domain to post comics, they took on his handle and it became primarily known as the name of the comic.

@realhackhistory@chaos.social Not to derail anything but uhhh this side-by-side is really affirming my adoption/headcanon of Cereal Killer as a transfem icon. Just look at her. You know she started having some realizations shortly after the whole heist thing. Maybe met another transfem hacker at a club somewhere and had a little crisis of self-recognition.

@sschoener@mastodon.gamedev.place The acknowelgements section is also a delight, in a different way, particularly the outro:

He aha te mea nui o te ao. He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.

What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

@scott@carfree.city I think you'd run into output limits with any reasonably-sized battery. My medium-size battery (300Wh, about the size of a car battery but much lighter) has a max output of 300W with 500W surge. That's a quarter of a kettle's 1200-1500W. And boiling water is quite energy-intensive: boiling 1L of water from room temp takes ~100Wh, which is fully a third of my battery's capacity. I discovered you *can* get little travel mug-sized kettles that run on 300W - I found one at a thrift store and bought it for the novelty, the one I have seems to work as promised, and looks similar to what you find if you search for "NiceWell Travel Kettle". I'm a little wary of it, that's a lot of power/heat to be putting into an off-brand cylinder, but...might be an option!

@Error @karotte @nor4 @992jo Thank you for your service/sacrifice. And the fact that there are three photos of this carnage posted by three different participants does your server's name proud 😆

@JeanPhilippe@techhub.social Every time I see this photo I get it mixed up with this one, which is also excellent. Different scale, but similar feat. This is Bell Island in Labrador, and the helicopter is doing Search & Rescue training/drills. Photo by David Barkes: "This photo is from 1987 when Labradors were flown form 103 Rescue Unit (CFB Gander). I still have the original negative kicking around somewhere:" https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Labrador_helicopter_landing_Bell_Island.jpg

@mwichary Also, apologies for the delay - I had meant to reply when you originally posted this but got distracted, and then was looking through my domains today and was reminded to circle back.

@SnoopJ Out in Tech is a group for queer tech folks that have chapters all over the US, they have a Slack and hold in-person meetups as well. I imagine the experience depends on your local organizers, but it's been a helpful place for me to network with other queer folks: https://outintech.com/
