Thanks @ratatui_rs@fosstodon.org and @orhun@fosstodon.org for the top-100 ratatui tools.

Today I put many of them in my box and want to show you one example of nushell (which I will continue to use) and xan (which I will use over nushell from now on):

even simple view of csv is better, I can't yet tell how much more cool features inside!

Real pleasure that most of the tools available in arch extra repo.

First one is kinda small and simple Trivial_Casts 🔢➡️🔟

The trivial_casts lint in Rust is designed to catch what the Rust compiler considers to be "obviously unnecessary" type casts. These casts are often a result of typos or misunderstandings of how types work in Rust, and they can lead to unexpected behavior if not caught early on.

When you cast one type to another, the compiler will automatically perform certain "trivial" casts that are considered safe and obvious. However, it might also flag cases where the cast is unnecessary because Rust can infer the correct type without any issues. These flagged cases are what the trivial_casts lint is designed to catch.

Example:

        let square = Square([2; 8]);
        let square = &square as □

#lotw

@Mara@hachyderm.io also in my projects I enable errors for all warning lints, including "unwrap_used". Which I think more than enough to prevent accidentally misusing it.

@Natasha_Jay it is unbelievable how some people can come up with such business ideas!

  1. Buy one pricey GPU
  2. Establish "polling company" entity
  3. Collect orders, run simulations, earn bucks

🤣

@servo congratulations. Decided to check what you are using for test automation. https://book.servo.org/hacking/testing.html book is currently missing. Just looking through repo I found wpt tests, yet if it is interesting for you, maybe you can write a small post about test automation for such an interesting project, especially UI testing.

@EndlessMason@hachyderm.io I want to say a big thank you, as you not only asked a great question, but your reply also led me to understand that I copied wrong example to the initial post (and thanks god no one noticed 🤣).

About your question specifically, I think the words "unexpected" behavior are toooo close to "undefined" behavior, and by using them I am putting readers to a confusion.

In my thoughts "unexpected" were used to represent how such casts can affect the typesystem of our programs and produce unexpected (from programmers point of view) behavior once we make changes in the code or just make wrong assumptions from the start.

Most of such situations will be caught by compiler, yet the resolution of errors it will show still require additional effort.

https://bshn.rs/blog/not-so-trivial-casts/

I made a small post with examples of how casts, explicit type definitions and implicit coercion compare to each other. And I also plan to create additional post (here and maybe also on my blog), to show how Trivial_Numeric_Casts can lead to bugs (I will not call it unexpected behavior anymore) next week.

@Mara@hachyderm.io I think we should not solve the problems of people who didn't read the Book 😁 If comment seriously, not sure that changing the name will help here, as this functionality so basic, that no developer would use it without understanding the consequences.

@b0rk@social.jvns.ca welcome to the club! It has nice options to customize "keybindings", including some submenus with custom commands. I totally can feel the pain with overloading files and many other nuances, but once I stick to helix, I can't get away from it to any other editor now. Hope that Steel plugin system will be merged soon to open endless customisation capabilities.
