I found this roughhead blenny sticking out of a coral head in the Bahamas. I really liked the vibrant yellow color and how I managed to light him sharply against the dark background so you could see all of the fine details. https://briangweber.com/featured/roughhead-blenny-brian-weber.html#underwaterphotography #macro #fish #blenny #Bahamas #scuba #scubadiving #olympus #om1 #nauticam

Astro post! It's been a bit, but here's an image of a favorite subject I captured over the winter: Thor's Helmet Nebula. This object trails Orion in the night sky and is pretty low on my horizon. Most images are just Hydrogen and Oxygen, but I grabbed Sulfur data as well and included it in my processing. I had seen Red-tipped Sea Goddess nudibranchs only once or twice before, but I saw probably 10 of them on this trip to the Bahamas. Most lived on dark colored sponges, but this one was out in the sand, which gave me a great opportunity to get in close for some super macro shots. Captured with my Olympus OM-1 + 60mm macro + AOI +20 diopter Prints: https://briangweber.com/featured/red-tipped-sea-goddess-brian-weber.html#nudibranchs #underwaterphotography #macro #sand #olympus #om1 #nauticam

☘️ St. Patrick's Day has arrived! ☘️

Here's one of our green friends from the underwater world. This is a Costasiella kuroshimae, commonly nicknamed "Shaun the Sheep." These tiny slugs are thieves, stealing photosynthesis cells from the algae they eat and using it to produce energy from the sun. Nature is cool!

This is a blue chromis with an isopod attached. These critters will munch on whatever the fish eats and are a drag on the animal due to their large relative size. I don't expect this image to be a big seller, but here's a link anyway: 😄

Peirce Island in New Hampshire was positively overflowing with nudibranchs last week. This image was captured with my Olympus OM-1 and Olympus 8mm fisheye lens to really show off the abundance of hydroids (nudi food!) and great visibility. This image features a pair of Flabellina verrilli that were each around 4 inches long. It was a beautiful day in the chilly water! Just a little preview from my dive at Peirce Island in Portsmouth, New Hampshire yesterday. Easily saw hundreds of nudibranchs while I was playing around with my fisheye lens and freezing my hands off. More pictures to come! Captured with my Olympus OM-1 + 8mm fisheye. #scuba #scubadiving #underwaterphotography #NewEngland #nudibranchs #olympus #om1

☘️ St. Patrick's Day has arrived! ☘️

To celebrate the occasion along with the arrival of spring, here's the Tulip Nebula processed in a very green way instead of natural red.

Flying squirrel! Just kidding, it's a gray squirrel that bolted away as I slowly approached. My shutter was set at 1/320, but he was speedy. #squirrel #motion #wildlife #wildlifephotography #olympus #om1 #nature

Black-capped chickadee on our feeder. I was sitting pretty close to the feeder, so most other birds were nervous about approaching, but the chickadees were unbothered. (The rusted metal is a slinky, which seems to be effective as a squirrel deterrent) #birds #backyardbirds #chickadee #NewEngland #wildlife #wildlifephotography #olympus #om1

Went to Peirce Island in Portsmouth, NH for the nudibranch bonanza and it was 🔥🔥

I opted to make it challenging by forgetting my flash trigger, so I had to shoot with video lights instead of strobes (possible, but I NEVER do it on purpose) 😣

Pictures to follow!

@astro_jcm@mastodon.online I feel like such a curmudgeon when I see friends post the generated images from these AI hype sites, but it really annoys me! Space is cool. There is cool stuff to see. Real stuff, not "cosmic smiley faces" or whatever other trash they are peddling.

I recently put together a new underwater photo rig featuring an Olympus OM-1 and fancy Nauticam housing, so I wrote a post about it! I barely had it in the water before a week in the Bahamas, but now I've got almost 30 dives on it 😁 https://blog.briangweber.com/om1-photo-rig/#underwaterphotography #gear #olympus #om1 #mirrorless #photography #blog

I am now 4 dives into my fisheye lens journey, so I wrote down some things I've learned. My January dive recap is live. I only managed two dives, but they were both with my new OM-1 photo rig! Check the blog for the recap and (most importantly) pictures.

The Eastern half of the US has some nasty winter weather last weekend. Some places had ice accumulation, but we had about 18" of snow. Here's a time lapse! https://youtu.be/VLjATYSd5OA?si=310DSWktRIzQLMxD #snow #winter #timelapse

PSA: You've probably heard about the Total Lunar Eclipse happening tonight/tomorrow morning depending where you are. You can use the linked page and search for your city to determinine if you can catch a glimpse. Note the altitude because while it is technically true that totality is visible from Boston, it happens at an altitude of 1.9º above the horizon, which means you will need a VERY clear view to the western horizon. https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/ #lunareclipse #space #science

Due to user error, my strobes weren't firing during my last dive. I managed to salvage some photos by reconfiguring my rig underwater and using my video lights instead, but it was obnoxious. The test to avoid this sort of issue is simple and easy. I should do it and you should too! https://blog.briangweber.com/camera-preflight/#underwaterphotography #fail #scubadiving #scuba #camera #strobes #blog

The March meeting from my local photo society just dropped including a presentation by yours truly about my trip to the Bahamas! Let me know what you think and if there are any images in particular you liked.

(Also, stick around after my presentation because Michael presented some truly stunning photos)
