An Irishman living by the beach in Aberdeen, Scotland. Making some people happy, occasionally annoying others. No interest in sport or football as a surrogate for bigotry. Not a pet person. I prefer the idea that animals should live independent lives. Ideally this should also apply to the people living in Scotland.

@gleick The Venetians were strict in the rule regarding the wealth of their lifetime rulers, And had a method of constraining grand larceny by the ruler.
On election The Doge had his wealth calculated when appointed and was forbidden on pain of death of accepting anything of lasting value.
Fruit and flowers were acceptable, but If a Doge was found to have accepted gifts that increased his fortune during his rule, he was stripped of his wealth and banished, as were his children.

Aberdeen Dolphins at the mouth of the Harbour have set themselves up in a wide sweeping 4: 2: 2: formation with 2 more extra wide on the wings, and a solo forward deep centre in the harbour mouth.
Alex Ferguson would be proud of the way they are attacking the salmon trying to get by them into the fresh waters of the Dee. I saw a couple of fine fish take to the air, momentarily, as it appeared a safer location than the water.

@Indyposterboy@mastodon.scot @Robbins@mastodon.scot @BylinesScotland@mastodon.social none of the former colonies, or outposts of the British Empire that have achieved independence have ever requested to return.

@Indyposterboy@mastodon.scot @Robbins@mastodon.scot @BylinesScotland@mastodon.social The Scottish electorate had a referendum on independence. The majority voted to remain as part of the UK. But that was over a decade ago. Many older voters have died and many younger residents have achieved the right to vote. So the nicest way to achieve independence would be to allow a referendum vote every 7 years until the majority vote for independence. This is similar to the way the population of NI will vote for a United Ireland.

@geomannie another self imposed cost, delay and re-introduced red tape courtesy of all those Brexit voters who will no doubt be voting for Nigel Farago Ltd in the next election.

@cstross@wandering.shop Terrorism is just the name we give to cheap violence, the improvised explosive devices, the car stuffed with home made explosives. If you have to stitch the explosives into your waistcoat and buy a bus ticket, then you are a terrorist. But if one has access to the latest Apache gunships, bunker busting bombs, cruise missiles, drones and satellite guided weaponry, then you don't get called a terrorist.
