@john okay, I've been thinking about this a bit more, and while this is exciting, here's what I'm concerned about: What if people say, "Why join Mastodon when I can just join Tumblr?" And then at some point Tumblr decides to defederate like Google did with XMPP, leaving fragmented communities behind. I think the Fediverse is more stable since it's got active communities who are aware of why they're here, but still something to keep in mind... 🦕

@MicroSFF correction: I just remembered that #WriteAs posts are displayed differently on Mastodon (they just show a small snippet, and you have to click through to read the full "article"). But let me see if I can think of something else...

@MicroSFF how much would you be willing to invest in setting up your own instance? There's a lightweight thing called https://microblog.pub that sounds perfect for what you're trying to do, if you're willing to spend a bit for the domain and a tiny VPS. (Or I could see about hosting you for a bit on the family VPS I'm planning to set up, till you're ready to start your own).

@MicroSFF@mastodon.social just visited your profile and saw that you have a website/domain already! Not sure what exactly I was going to suggest, but it makes you already that much ahead of the game 🙂

@john ah yes, that's true. It may work the other way then; people will think "joining Mastodon is even better since I can then follow Tumblr people too!" Would be interesting to see how two large networks interact. There isn't much overlap between Tumblr and Flickr, but let's see who else jumps in 🤪 I'm still being cautiously optimistic; like you said let's see 🤞

@cosmictentacle @john there's definitely a niche(ish) dedicated crowd who've always loved it. Most of the buzz right now seems to be because of their #ActivityPub plans though (and the fact that #TwitterExodus people started looking there as an alternative).
