Google Maps also stopped showing connections that involve walks longer than 500 meters. It'll just be like "no its impossible to reach the other end of Berlin in half an hour by public transport. You need to change 6 times". Because it refuses to let me cross a bridge to another busstation because US brained people dont believe in legs.

We need to start putting UUIDs in our resumes like they are CVEs

@thedarktangent automating this is damn near negligent. The Epstein files contain copies of many open source licenses and copyright statements verbatim for some reason. So many open source maintainers are in them lol

@pid_eins i think websocket is overkill here. Should use SSE instead as varlink streaming isn't bidirectional. Varlink is practically the same as Model Context Protocol which is funny as you can now market Systemd as AI native. They also switched to SSE for simplicity

@pid_eins yes but http2 already takes care of recycling connections. You don't need websockets for that

@filippo What about WebAuthn, Passkeys, etc? I don't see any movement in that side of the pond. Just as we are convincing everyone to switch to them

Lol Progressief Nederland host op CloudFlare.

Ik vind dit toch vrij ironisch.

Grote woorden over gevaar van big tech in de kamer maar als puntje bij paaltje komt bij Cloudflare je website hosten???

Erlang pisses me off in that they have nice syntax for message passing but then they hide it in wrapping everything in gen_server.

My prediction is that the concept of a distro is going to die in the coming months. You're gonna be expected to build all your dependencies and kernels from source if you want to make it in the brave new post AI CVE world.

@pid_eins

the more support and keeping connections open can easily be implemented with just native HTTP without having to switch to websockets. Doesn't even have to be SSE. Can just be a response that streams its results and splits the stream by NUL byte.

The varlink semantics of queuing multiple requests and the need for responses to come back into the same order as requests makes it behave basically the same semantics as HTTP 1.1

Map each HTTP path to a varlink method call. And map the parameters to the request body

Then simply stream back the reponse of the varlink call back over the http connection. If the varlink response streams multiple answers, just keep the http connection open

Here is an example that reuses the same varlink connection over multiple HTTP calls; works fine!

I really don't see the need for websockets here

Here's a demo in a few lines of go:

Turns out https://signoz.io isn't open source at all

https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz-otel-collector/tree/main is required to run migrations and ingest data into ClickHouse and it doesn't have a license at all.

Someone opened an issue about it in 2024. No response.

Installing this seems like a legal liability
