RE: https://mastodon.iftas.org/@iftas/116426965511875330 @Viss @leo the current tactic seems to be getting a legit-looking account through review, then using invites (which bypass review) to create the spam accounts.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org @wtrmt@mastodon.social to be clear, they're electric machines with a foot control. The process hasn't changed much since then, https://youtu.be/5rWUVX0wlu4 has a brief clip of a modern machine set up the same way.

@simontatham@hachyderm.io The key words "MUST (BUT WE KNOW YOU WON'T)", "SHOULD CONSIDER", "REALLY SHOULD NOT", "OUGHT TO", "WOULD PROBABLY", "MAY WISH TO", "COULD", "POSSIBLE", and "MIGHT" in this document are to be interpreted as described in RFC 6919. https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc6919

RFC 6919: Further Key Words for Use in RFCs to Indicate Requirement Levels

RFC 2119 defines a standard set of key words for describing requirements of a specification. Many IETF documents have found that these words cannot accurately capture the nuanced requirements of their specification. This document defines additional key words that can be used to address alternative requirements scenarios. Authors who follow these guidelines should incorporate this phrase near the beginning of their document: The key words "MUST (BUT WE KNOW YOU WON\'T)", "SHOULD CONSIDER", "

@benjojo https://arxiv.org/pdf/2107.03437 identifies it as a 32m Intelsat Standard-A satellite communications dish, which would have been used for telephone, TV, and broadcast radio connections. They were obsoleted in the mid 80s with better undersea cables and satellites that didn't require dishes that big. Some have been repurposed for radio astronomy, but this one was just mothballed.

@brennen@federation.p1k3.com I mean, https://microclimate.com/ does exist, though iirc reviews were mixed there are also more traditional powered air-purifying respirators usually used in industrial/healthcare settings, but they're $$$$

@shoq every theater production will involve a great number of costumes and props. these are very often stored in some out-of-the-way corner of the theater, so that the next time they do that show 10 years down the line someone can pull the old costumes out and decide not to use them. (I joke, more generic costume pieces get reused fairly frequently.) if the costume loft is a mess, designers will spend $$$$ on new stuff. and they're always a mess.

USB-C being standard and high-power and high-speed is great and all, but whoever designed the port definitely didn't design it to be easy to clean milk out of.

RE: @anticomposite@wikis.world

I've got a lot of backed-up street-level imagery that I've captured for #OpenStreetMap, and it would be nice to have it in a more useful form than just a bunch of folders of JPEGs. Enter #Panoramax, a self-hostable SLI server.

But guess what?

Apparently, some of the python dependencies don't like older CPUs either. Gonna be a wild goose chase to figure out which one, though if I do I can probably rebuild it.

@theresnotime why medical software developers think "no response necessary" should actually be "no response allowed", I'll never know. Doctors never give confusing instructions or anything, after all. But they keep doing it.

@despens for large images you probably want to use https://www.libvips.org/ though it's not quite as extensible as ImageMagick. But the things it does it does well.
