banner: extreme close-up of a painting with two deer drinking from a stream in autumn.
icon: sawatari shingo in "the heatwave lasted four days". the earth-toned wall art behind him has a round pattern with rings that makes it look like he has a halo.

stumbled across https://winamp.spacecatsamba.com/ by @sambaneko@mstdn.social and it is GREAT. love scrolling through and being able to pinpoint different eras of fandoms that i remember being popular over the years. and they're all really good too! found myself hitting download many times. wonderful work, love to see it
hey guys did you know there is a real person known as cardinal pizzaballa. i have been reassured by italians that the name sounds just as bonkers to them
i would love to see a sci-fi work that borrows imagery/symbolism from the mahabharata or the bhagavad gita specifically

@condret@fedi.absturztau.be @mttaggart@infosec.exchange @nohhue@mastodon.social is it legally binding if someone says "no" when asked for consent?

@goldgust@blorbo.social great zine! i think i feel similarly about shipping - several of my ships have no romantic elements, it's just about exploring what their relationship would be like and what that contact would do to one or both of them. the romance in some ships is secondary, or a consequence to use your language.

@azett@mastodon.online for what it's worth, i showed these pictures to some people i know who are very knowledgeable about wwii uniforms. they're pretty confident this is an american uniform. hard to say which branch. they did also point out that a lot of the allies manufactured each other's uniforms which means there's some stylistic drift among nations, so don't treat their conclusion as the final word.
you could try plugging some different possible last names into that AAD database, or see if any of the free-to-access databases listed here have something helpful: https://www.militaryindexes.com/worldwartwo/
since you don't have any more info at the moment, it wouldn't be worth contacting the national archives/national personnel records center. i used to work there and we couldn't fill requests that didn't have even an approximate date of birth or other information. but i hope you can find some more clues with everyone who's trying to help you!
another edit: is it possible he was canadian and the germans were a little confused with their language? since canada and the usa are both in north america :p
(to the tune of "kid charlemagne") is there frost on the car? yes there's frost on the car
i could be frustrated about realizing that part of what i just wrote doesn't match up with a later already-written part but instead i am going to be relieved that 1) i caught it, 2) there's not a lot to undo, and 3) i am so close to being done. aaahhhh
i have been something of a bah humbug when it comes to asmr because 99% of what i've seen/heard does not work for me, but i will admit to experiencing that reaction with a handful of songs, most notably this must be the place (naive melody) by the talking heads, and lovely day by bill withers. brandy by looking glass gets an honorable mention because it often makes me start crying for no reason. it's not even one of my fav songs!

@blakasmoko@blorbo.social i did not pay attention to the conclave details because the movie was sexier so i am only now learning about this 😔 incredible that this guy has a name that would've been an ethnic joke 50 years ago
replaying the elsweyr prologue so i can unlock smth for zerith-var and it is very funny to me that abnur and khamira keep talking shit about necromancers when they have two right next to them

700 words. i can finish this tomorrow since now i have the sexy sick scene to look forward to. tho i will have to edit the second one to acknowledge the first lol. the perils of writing parts of a story years apart
whenever i rewatch anchorman i am both reminded that it's not actually a very good movie and also that it would make an incredible towershipping au. hate to say it but shingo would definitely behave like that and yuzu would definitely be unimpressed just like she is in canon lmao
why does the first 10 seconds of dr john's wash mama wash sound like the talking heads' this must be the place

@azett@mastodon.online I don't see any matches in the national archives' database of army enlistments: https://aad.archives.gov/aad/display-partial-records.jsp?s=3360&dt=929&tf=F&bc=%2Csl%2Cfd&q=garth&btnSearch=Search&as_alq=&as_anq=&as_epq=&as_woq==
the us air force wasn't separate until after wwii, so this suggests your man was either in the usa navy/marines or not an american soldier. (possibly british or canadian?) what information do you have that suggests he was from the usa?
