Nature lover, Brisbane, Australia. I post photos etc. here. I have made another account for other stuff, mainly politics: @andrewrock@aus.social. Banner photo by me. All photos posted by me, unless otherwise attributed. All nature matters, from the mountain to the plain, from the river to the sea.

Pied Currawongs congregate and dominate this dawn chorus recorded at Burton's Well campgound, Bunya Mountains National Park, Queensland.

@david@photog.social @anathema_device@bne.social I have a gripe with many of the "official" common names. This is neither a magpie or a lark. Another name is pied mudlark, better as it is pied and makes mud nests. My preferred Peewee is unambiguous, but not fancy enough for the powers who think they are.

@anathema_device It was pretty bloody blowy most of my time at Burton's Well a couple of weeks ago. The walk from BW to the top of mount K-something was easier than I thought it would be, very pretty through the grass trees, and a good view at the top. Sooo many yellow robins too. Recommended.

@david Nicer version. I don't have any points with the screws on the outside like that, so can't make any measurements. I could send you the code and you could fill in the real measurements and tweak it. The software to render it as STL that the printer could use is OpenSCAD (free).

@cbuddenhagen@mastodon.nz @maaikees@sw-development-is.social Depends on the task. Retired now, so projects are just for me. I use Haskell whenever I can, C/++ when I must, OpenSCAD for 3D design, and am playing with ARM64 assembly for no practical reason at all.

@mttaggart I use it on some photos to clean up distractions to make art not reportage. Not going to rule out other uses for other people, but I do move on from obvious synthetic time-wasting crap. My biggest concern is hearing of people in important positions, so self-important that they think their time is so valuable that they need not read the things they are paid the big bucks to read and instead on the summaries imagined for them with generative AI. The devil is in the detail.

@david First go, parametric, needs actual measurements fed in, but moot if the off-the-shelf option is OK.

@maaikees@sw-development-is.social As a 40 year programming and computer science educator, I have nothing but contempt for Python. It didn't motivate learning programmers to bother to understand the very data the language manipulates. Ugly to boot. Good luck with your vibe coding, you full stack ignoramuses.
