@jacob@social.jacobian.org Responding to the thread as a whole, I think code readability will matter just as much as cockpit black boxes matter. The universe is against us even with bug-free hardware and software. Even the perfect self-driving car will kill some people. The perfect AI doctor will lose some patients. The perfect automated factory will assemble some lemons. We will need to be able to learn why and how it happened. Step by step. So, logs and readable code. Otherwise trusting automation is impossible

I spent last week in Valtournenche with @antocuni@mastodon.social and Hood Chatham and managed to use SPy to accelerate my #Python code in the browser. It's too early for general adoption, but not too early to get excited.

Episode 7 of the core․py #podcast is out! 🚀

I explain tokenizers, grammars, and parsers, while Pedantic Pablo corrects my most egregious oversimplifications. We go as far as #Python 1.0, finding a few surprises along the way.

Thanks for your patience! Pablo was moving, and I also had an excuse, but now I can't remember 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and via RSS. All linked in the Spotify landing page below.

@src_esther @Anneke @bert_hubert I can easily reproduce this failure mode with a Marshall Bluetooth speaker. First, connect to the Mac and turn volume down. Then, connect to the phone and witness the inability to turn the volume up enough to be usable. So, my stupid recommendation is to connect the hearing aids to a Mac first and max out the volume. Disconnect, forget device, connect to phone.

@tmr232@mastodon.social The backslash DOES escape the closing quote in raw strings. That's why this behavior is preserved all the way to the last character in a string. >>> print(r"A\"B") A"B Sure, it's a bit unexpected, and actively annoying for Windows paths. But it's weirdly consistent.
