It’s not only poor, uneducated men who commit rape. They are simply the ones system finds easier to punish. Wealth & status makes accountability harder, be it through settlements, pressure or even preventing cases from being registered. I live in a country where rape-accused men can enter electoral politics. Well so does America. We know the system continues to protect abusive men when they are wealthy & powerful. They abuse because they believe they can get away with it & they most often do.

Who am I kidding? It’s not as if women are safe before sunset. But the audacity of people who can find an issue with everything, from her clothes & the time of day to her reason for being out in public, while finding reasons to justify the abuse is on another level. It’s 5:30 am & I would rather be doing anything but talking about this. I see so many Indian women speaking up online. There is anger in their voices but also a deep helplessness. A desperate appeal for something as basic as safety.

Thanks for the laugh but Newcastle University are you okay? I get the economy isn't doing great but Anant Ambani as a Professor of Practice in Sustainability? Be serious. Ambanis are India’s billionaire family who cosplay as the Sanskari(traditional) Kardashians. No amount of money, power or fame ever seems to be enough. They manufacture their own awards & then hand them to themselves. They own media houses so scrutiny around their sustainability practices rarely gets the attention it deserves.

Here’s a crazy idea --> instead of asking working people to donate to disaster relief funds out of empathy, why don’t we make the corporations & industries that have contributed disproportionately to the climate crisis bear a far greater share of the cost of the damage? Maybe accountability before charity? Perhaps if they were made to pay for the environmental damage they contribute to(not simply write a CSR cheque) they will work towards preventing & solving the problems they helped create.

This park is adjacent to a women's college. After hearing about the incident, the college administration decided to move classes online temporarily as a safety precaution. You work hard to get into one of the best colleges in India & then end up learning remotely because women cannot be guaranteed safety on the streets around your campus. Park authorities proposed a new rule-> park closes at sunset. Women should simply not exist in public after dark if they don't want to be assaulted in India.

I wrote this post in response to a viral video of a minor girl who was harassed & assaulted at 7pm while returning from coaching by loser men who were moral policing. The incident is so triggering & what makes it even more disturbing is how quickly a girl’s trauma becomes viral content. No one blurred her face, her abusers wore a mask even when he was arrested. This happened in Bihar & now, its Delhi. A 17 yo girl is gang raped in a park by adult men posing to be police. Again 730 pm in a park.

'Posh' isn’t a status symbol here. It’s to show that money cannot buy safety. Women in powerful positions are abused too. But that’s not the point. Why should women have to navigate life with endless checks? Where we walk, when we walk, what we wear, who is around? Why can't I simply breathe, walk, speak my mind & exist with the same freedom as the most ordinary man? Why do women have to fight for a freedom men are simply allowed to have? Why? What have men done to deserve that? Its so unfair.

It feels insidious & deeply in line with a patriarchal mindset that has long sought to keep women confined to the household. When public spaces become unsafe, women withdraw not because they want to, but because they have to. Every park avoided, every evening walk cancelled, every moment of freedom surrendered quietly pushes women back indoors. Patriarchy does not operate only through rules & restrictions but it also works through fear. Result-> women lose access to the world outside their homes

Patriarchy: A Trauma Story I lived in one of the posh South Delhi neighborhood growing up. One December morning, I was walking to a friend’s house to revise for an exam. 10 mins walk. There was a park after almost every block. A man called out from inside the park, in English, asking if I could help him. I asked, With what? He exposed himself & said, 'With this'. I was 16. Majority of Indian women have different versions of similar public space trauma stories. That's why I am an angry feminist.

Nepalis who live in these regions depend on tourism for their livelihoods. Hotels, restaurants, porters, drivers, guides, shopkeepers and countless families rely on the steady flow of visitors through these mountain routes. When disaster strikes, they don't just lose homes and loved ones. They lose their entire source of income overnight. Will those who deny climate crisis help to rebuild these communities? I guess their interest ends at conquering Mt Everest via Sherpas who carry their weight.

Death toll rises to 270, over 1300 missing The time to find solutions is now. This will only get worse. Don't know what I can do except to write about how helplessly sick this makes me feel. No one deserves a death like this. Imagine ordinary people just washed away in a second because people who shape our climate policies refuse to take climate change seriously. We need serious climate action and real protection for communities living on the frontlines of climate change not just prayers.

The pressure begins almost as soon as a girl graduates at 21. Many women pursue higher studies not out of interest but simply to postpone the marriage trap. If you’re lucky, an understanding family gives you 5 more years. But cross 30 & even loving parents may start asking you to compromise. They may accept your choice of groom(provided caste, religion, class still fit). I am speaking about the majority of Indians. And if you don’t have anyone, you’re emotionally guilted into arranged meetings.

It’s not enough to tax billionaires. Energy hungry industries like AI & its massive data centres should bear a far greater share of the environmental costs they create. Amazon, Microsoft & Google are collectively investing billions of dollars in Indian AI data centre infrastructure. Not just because its cheap. Who cares about low income countries with corruption where you can get away with murder if you're rich? For those who aren’t aware, India is already facing a serious water crisis.

788 lives are lost, 9000+ people rescued, 2500+ still reported missing. It will take a very long time for Nepal to regain even a semblance of stability in these regions. From education & employment to housing & healthcare, every aspect of people’s lives has been upended by a disaster of the kind climate scientists have been warning us about for years. Climate change is not a distant threat. It is reshaping the lives of millions across South Asia. India with a billion+ population should wake up.

Gloria Steinem’s death is an occasion to assess her legacy (not turn her into either a saint or a villain). There is plenty to criticise, but dismissing everything she accomplished is just as intellectually lazy. She was genuinely important to 2nd wave feminism. She brought women’s inequality into mainstream political debate, fought for reproductive freedom, workplace equality & the Equal Rights Amendment. But her legacy also represents the limits of mainstream liberal feminism.

There’s no nice way to put this-> Indians driving in India seem incapable of going anywhere without unnecessarily honking. It’s beyond infuriating. And to the men who love mocking women’s driving skills-> did no one teach you that you can drive without announcing your every move to the entire world? Why do people honk while waiting in traffic? Ugh. The Northeast is the only exception I’ve noticed. More patience, more consideration & most importantly, fewer assaults on everyone else’s eardrums.

Over 390 dead, 1500 people are currently reported missing. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said it does not ‌need help from other countries to conduct search and ‌rescue operations. Nepal News reported that personnel on the ground were severely insufficient for the scale of rescue & body recovery operations while destroyed roads were preventing relief supplies from reaching families. When the need exceeds capacity, there should be no hesitation in accepting every credible helping hand.

If I was writing this on Twitter/X by now BJP(India's ruling party) IT cell would have bombarded this thread with death/rape threats labeling me anti-national. If my name wasn't Hindu, I would have been told to go to Pakistan. They would find my socials online and spam vulgarity. This has been BJPs biggest tool to silence every dissenter since 2016. The reason why I left most social media because there's only so many death/rape threats one can take for speaking out things that are common sense.

Earth scientists reviewing satellite imagery have found devastating clues: geomorphologists Kristen Cook & Dan Shugar say the bedrock beneath the glacier appears to have collapsed, taking a massive section of ice with it, sending boulders & ice crashing into the valley. It is not yet over. Nepal is facing yet another terrifying warning at the same disaster site. 469 confirmed deaths. Search & rescue operations halted as water levels continue to rise as a dam on the Tibetan side has burst again.

They call them cockroaches as an insult without realising the Youth intentionally appropriated that term. They're here to stay, They're here to fight, despite all the odds against them. In a population like India, it's not easy for most students without privilege to make it in life. Opportunities that the income-rich countries take for granted, aren't given to all. What lesson are these ideology driven adults sending to youth? If your govt can be toppled because of accountability, it should be.

I am a Delhite, since past few years I've been living in a small town 1000 miles away, to the other side of this country. My community here are people who are educators themselves & they tell me instead of doing anything productive this Gen Alpha xyz are bent on toppling govt. Over past decade, I've seen how polarised this country has become. Be it gender, religion, orientation. But the fact that educators can't see the pain of these kids who are simply protesting for accountability is shocking.

Instead of addressing the issues, when the Parliament session began yesterday, government ensured the Police would physically assault those protesting kids who dared to come on streets to ask these so-called democratically elected leaders to do their job. At the bare minimum, one should have decency to have a dialogue with the youth who are suffering at the gross negligence of their governance. It's well known our PM doesn't believe in discourse. He would be lost without his teleprompter.
