Not a glaze I'll be using here at home though, is a cone 10 glaze and I only have the means to fire to cone 6 reliably/at regular intervals so going to try making some glazes of my own. Plus it's the potter who is teaching me own one.
I've a couple of commercial glazes for now though to try but they are expensive in the long run comparatively.

Was my last lesson today, so I should probably sort out doing stuff other ways.
Every time I go to get going here at home though I start second guessing everything and then getting nowhere. Stupid brain.

What I really need to so is sort out a workbench so I can wedge, prep, clean, glaze etc. in the room my wheel is in.
Maybe I should go to mitre10 before it closes this evening and just commit. Was going to get modular shelving from IKEA but is a high chance I'll dither and never order.

Weeeeeee - yeah that's a spike and a half. It'll be interesting to see how this is reflected in the final pricing that'll come through in a couple of days.

Potter teaching me seemed pleased I wanted to go down the "make own glazes" path though.

This house is cold and empty
Just a ghost of who I used to be
I stare at my own reflection
Wondered if you'd even recognize me
Last night I heard you whisper
"Everything is fine 'cause I am here, I am here"
Last night I saw your shadow
But when I called your name you disappeared, you disappear
Who's gonna say goodnight?
Who's gonna stop the world from turning?
Who's gonna numb my pain?
Who's gonna save me when the sky is crashing down?

Silly thoughts, lead to seeing this is fine slack emoji in unexpected places
Remember, don't trust user input. That extends to things that are user controlled like User Agents 😅

Okay partner took me out of the house to go sort stuff so now my workspace has less space but more space for working on things in the space.

This is another perfect example of why BESS is so so helpful. It's a fast instant response generation. It props the grid up while other things come online for sustained (like the Diesel/Oil ones).
There's also the gas fast start generation, one near me (Junction Road Power Plant) reaches peak generation from nothing inside 15 minutes (100MW). We should build more BESS instead tho.
Anyway, grids settled back down to a sane price. Would happen on one of the colder nights when the grid was already under a lot of load wouldn't it...

Rosemary was wondering why I didn't bring her treats. She cares less about the rain than I do.
Good little lawn mower.

Now because my automation consumes the live data from WITS (NZX) at the update intervals set by them it meant it;
Sent me a "What the fuck just happened to the price" notificationSwitched the battery into forced exportSent me a Home Assistant notification with an actionable "Reduce Load" button which I prodded so the heat pump (which was idling) went off)

From RNZ - Update: NEMA has downgraded its tsunami warning to an advisory following an earthquake near Te Anau.
The agency earlier said people on the West Coast of the South Island from Milford Sound to Puysegur Point must immediately move to higher ground, out of tsunami evacuation zones or as far inland as possible.
It now says people in coastal areas should expect strong and unusual currents and unpredictable surges at the shore.
The quake was first recorded as a 6.3-magnitude shake but it has been revised down to 5.9.

I do appreciate that all this info is shared by Transpower. They could quite easy hide it all behind “you need to be a participant” but they don’t.
Obviously isn’t everything but yeah.

The generation from Coal sank to 0 MW in the delayed data. Diesel/Oil picked up which if I recall correctly is the most expensive generation on grid.
Because our wholesale price is set by the cost of the most expensive generation type needed at that instant the entire wholesale price rockets up to that high price instead of being a bit more of a generation average.
It's one of the weird ways that power shortages (though this was an outage/UFE) perversely benefits the gentailers who aren't building more cheap generation - they tend to own the high price setters.

@PetraOleum@cloudisland.nz fair... I should worry less about it I guess.
But worrying is the one thing I do well! Or do I... maybe I'm bad at that too 😅🤣

From the car, mostly. Back into the grid providing some tiny amount of assistance 🤣
Imagine if this tech was spread across all households? One power station tripping offline would be a non-event.

No that's not a typo, that's $18.247/KWh

Currently averaging ~54c/kWh for my exports so far this month. Imports cost me about ~12c/kWh. Not bad.
Exported 32.01 kWh @ $16.73 credit ($17.56 with rebate)
Imported 163.18 kWh at $7.67 cost ($19.69 with line charges)
That's not terrible really. Much better than my 12.5c export and 20/40c import.

I had to guess, Huntly had a new BESS go into commissioning on the 21st July until the 23rd Aug (ish) - there is a CE/ECE Risk notice for that going on so maybe related to that going. Though an under frequency isn't what I'd have expected, but I'm no expert.

Another reason to keep RNZ on quick access. CD’s sites down but they still put the update out. Anyway, sleep.

But sure, add big loads that can’t be load controlled to the power grid, what could go wrong.
