We're losing 2 notable Mastodon servers within 3 months of each other.
mastodon.cloud with about 4,000 active users is closing in 6 days. And toot.community with about 1,700 is closing in 3 months.
Unsure why mastodon.cloud is closing, but toot.community seems to be admin burnout and financial drain.

hear-me.social was just updated to V4.7.
Q: What differences will you see in this important and large upgrade?
A: None what-so-ever.
Q: Why is this then an important and large upgrade?
A: It brings major "under-the-hood" changes that make the server faster, safer, and more reliable.
Q: How specifically?
A: V4.7 overhauls the security and the way Mastodon connects to other servers across the Fediverse. It adds encryption to protect posts from being tampered with when shared across multiple servers. It future-proofs against quantum computing threats. It cleans up old background code and cleans up database structures to make future server updates smoother and downtime-free. It is meant to get everything ready for V5.

#Fediblock is being abused for harassment and revenge.
Most of you know "Jimmy Truth" who has been suspended by almost every Mastodon instance so far for harassment, misinformation, transphobia, fascism, religious intolerance, and every other rule you can think of.
His new tactic is to recommend fediblocks against instances that kick him off, ironically, listing through projection the very reasons he gets suspended.
I know there are some admins who take these Fediblocks on faith, but don't become his tool for his revenge and harassment and just start blocking instances because they have the hashtag.

I just had a look there. There are a number of known scammer accounts set up on there, like Lillian, Tara, Elysia, and multiple versions of themselves.
I limited zirk.us for now. I didn't block it because there are a number of follow relationships here that I don't want to break.
Anyone on this server (hear-me.social) who gets an unexpected follow request from zirk.us ought probably not accept it.

It's a large instance that is poorly moderated but still has plenty of legitimate members.
Because of this I've had mastodon.cloud limited here for about 2 years to allow follow relationships while preventing spam from spreading.
I don't recommend a block. I recommend limiting IMHO.

Thank you both for bringing this to my attention.
I blocked sign-ups that begin with SAAR_ and I've blocked the 4 email domains.

Hi IFTAS,
I visited sigmoid.social and I see 500 active users and a lot of activity on their local feed from what appear to be legitimate users.
Is there a way to reach these users to let them know that they are about to be defederated by many instances?
Here's the local feed: https://sigmoid.social/public/local
