I don't miss Spotify much, but I do miss being able to control the playback on one computer from a different computer. It was so useful in the classroom. Airplay just isn't the same.

@chunshek I’m actually hosting my server on a mini pc on my home network. I have a symmetrical gigabit connection and which has worked out just fine. I have it behind Cloudflare, but there are other options too.
AWS got rid of its free tiers and their service was expensive for a weak server.

I asked for a PR for bug fixes and test improvements, then each feature in its own PR. Got a cascade of nearly 30 PRs that just build on each other (same commits + 1 in each).
Reviewing this responsibly would take weeks.
@chunshek I’ve been running mine for nearly two years now. Moderation is easy if you start by using one of the blocklists for bad-actor instances.
Federation can be solved with follows and relays.

@chunshek Yeah. Totally makes sense. The storage is going to be the killer at Digital Ocean. My database is pretty large and the short term file storage is not insignificant. I have it set to empty unused third party images from the cache pretty quickly. 36 GB of database, about 100 GB of media storage.

@chunshek I was lucky to get hooked into a regional relay. That improved coverage of local sports and news commentary. Maybe something like that exists?
I found Fake Relay was less useful once they broke FakeFirehose.
