I am currently looking for employment! see pinned post for details

god cannot judge me as I exist beyond the reach of daemons

may boost/reply to non-explicit yet mature stuff occasionally, though will never post any directly

I don't like having a lot of disconnected people following me, but if we've talked before, shoot a request

Meet the First New Cat Species Discovered in 100 Years

A small, spotted tiger cat from Bolivia may just be the beginning of a wave of new small cat species.

the only things I will say about the whole recent kde thing (as everything else is done to death, and I don't use kde myself) are that (1) miscommunications due to imprecise language remain the #1 source of fighting on the internet, so making intent clear from the get-go is exceedingly important, and (2) people (especially Online People) really need to remember that others aren't necessarily as Online as them and understand Online Things. especially if they're older. being able to step back and (at least attempt to) imagine the past X minutes/hours/days/weeks/months/years of someone's life that may have influenced how they acted in one particular moment or said something a certain way is a big virtue that in my opinion, allows you to approach things from a calmer, more analytical manner as opposed to jumping guns based purely on your own potentially biased perspective. this also ties into (1), since you might jump the gun on something that was imprecise language as opposed to requesting clarification/taking approaches from other perspectives. oh and (3) if you're concerned about something happening on a less-public place, do not Post about it Very Publicly to a Followerbase unless 1) and 2) have already been exhaustively employed and the situation really does appear to be Very Bad. there was a point in the original issue discussion where the Rules of Communication simply dissolved (due to (3)) such that (1) and (2) couldn't have been effectively employed anymore, which generally results in only one outcome after that moment (the current one)

Hi, I'm looking for an entry level/junior/apprenticeship job since I'm fresh out of college (BS in computer engineering). I am currently in the southeastern united states, but I would be more than willing to move somewhere else (especially either to the north or to Europe) for a job. Remote is also fine. In terms of computer-y things, the stuff I enjoy doing the most includes: Updating legacy codebases to be Good and Modern. Removing cruft, changing languages, whatever it may be. It's my zen.Wrangling automation/build systems or making tools to automate things/make things easier.Designing hardware with HDLs (VHDL or spade; I don't know verilog directly)Embedded development (currently, mainly in C and/or assembly)"General *nix server upkeep". I help a friend host their website + some game servers on their linux laptop. Includes networking & sysadmining. I helped with IT at my college during my learning, so I have ~2 years of hands-on IT work.Developing open source software. A living list of languages I have used can be found on my website, and I am generally quick at learning new ones. That page also includes my forgejo (where my projects are) and my github (where I contribute to other projects)Reverse engineering/documenting things. Outside of strictly computer-y things, I would also be fine with: Archiving/cataloging work (e.g. library/museum)Electrician work (apprenticeship needed) I would prefer to work at either an established company or the public sector. Preferably not an evil one too. Preferably European companies, with an eventual desire to move to Europe, but I'll take anything I can get. I can provide more details in private/on an actual listing. #fedihire #getfedihired

middle school tier humor
if (ARG_SHORT(arg, 'h') || ARG_LONG(arg, "help")) ... "hmm, this seems a bit verbose; I should make a macro for this pattern" if (ARG_SHORTORLONG(arg, 'h', "help")) ... "that's a bit better, but now the macro name is kinda long..." if (ARG_SHLONG(arg, 'h', "help")) ... "perfect"

@arch@floofy.tech I've seriously, honestly, been considering just doing a trade job for a career; any avenue I look towards for tech jobs--spare very far and few opportunities--I leave nauseated, disgusted, and sad. I'd like to. you know. actually do real meaningful things with real meaningful people rather than the faceless machines just like, leave it all, become a train driver or something, and do my silly little computer projects on the side. that seems like the life.

annoying: I would assume that type hinting function returns in python would make the REPL use them for autocomplete, e.g.

def rmalpha(img) -> Image:
...

would allow me to then do rmalpha(img). and get autocomplete stuff for Image, since it's hinted that it returns Image... but it does not

it's weird to remember that, in the grand scheme of things, khonjin house is kinda niche. it feels like it'd be such a staple of The Internet but it's not. who here knows about khonjin house
