I won’t spoil but heaps of praise and highly recommended.
Even to people who are not into supernatural horror. Because in a way, from a certain perspective it is no supernatural horror, but a true crime story of that despised empire.

Just to be absolutely clear, my worldview is NOT that humankind is predominantly evil, or that humans are inherently so.
I am not without hope for the future.
However it wil be a lot of hard work.
One of the biggest hurdles for us in the west might be to be honest about our actions and their consequences.
We are the baddies.

A cynic is what I don't want to be. I too encounter decent, kind and cooperative people. I even try to be one.
However -decent, kind and cooperative- as I am, I am not very successful in stopping any of the evils on the list I vomited out in my rant.
That is a puzzle Rutger Bregman could really help me with. How can we (he's a white male Dutch person, like me) be more successful in stopping evil.
Not by repeating to ourselves how decent, kind and cooperative we are, I think.
I want us to be more effective in stopping genocides, but we allow our government and our companies to export weapons to the murderers.
Maybe becoming less cooperative and less decent and less kind might be more effective?

Sommigen hebben geprobeerd deze oorlog te rechtvaardigen met het argument van regimechange. Dit argument is niet nieuw. In de recente geschiedenis hebben vergelijkbare interventies, onder andere in Irak en Libië, geleid tot verwoesting, langdurige instabiliteit en immense menselijke tragedies.
Het is niet aan de grote machten zoals de Verenigde Staten en zeker niet aan de genocidale Israëlische regering om via militaire interventies te bepalen welke
regering andere volkeren moeten hebben. Het principe van soevereiniteit van staten en het recht van volkeren om hun eigen politieke toekomst te bepalen behoren tot de fundamenten van het internationaal recht.
In het Midden-Oosten is inmiddels een regionale oorlog ontstaan waarin verschillende staten direct of indirect betrokken zijn. Hoe langer de aanvallen op Iran doorgaan, hoe verder het Midden-Oosten verzeild raakt in een eindeloze nieuwe spiraal van geweld. Dit geweld kan door de betrokkenheid van grootmachten én door de gevolgen voor de globale energievoorziening snel een mondiale dimensie krijgen, met desastreuze gevolgen voor mens en planeet.
