@liw@toot.liw.fi @husku@eliitin-some.fi ″Go bag″ on hyvä ajatus muutenkin kaiken varalta kuin tulipalon.

https://www.makupalat.fi

Maybe we should go back about 2400 years and recall Plato’s Laws, especially Book V thereof (744d–e, 745a–b):

“– – there should exist among the citizens neither extreme poverty, nor, again, excess of wealth, for both are productive of both these evils. Now the legislator should determine what is to be the limit of poverty or wealth. Let the limit of poverty be the value of the lot; this ought to be preserved, and no ruler, nor any one else who aspires after a reputation for virtue, will allow the lot to be impaired in any case. This the legislator gives as a measure, and he will permit a man to acquire double or triple, or as much as four times the amount of this [– –]. But if a person have yet greater riches, whether he has found them, or they have been given to him, or he has made them in business, or has acquired by any stroke of fortune that which is in excess of the measure, if he give back the surplus to the state, and to the Gods who are the patrons of the state, he shall suffer no penalty or loss of reputation; but if he disobeys this our law, any one who likes may inform against him and receive half the value of the excess, and the delinquent shall pay a sum equal to the excess out of his own property, and the other half of the excess shall belong to the Gods. And let every possession of every man, with the exception of the lot, be publicly registered before the magistrates whom the law appoints, so that all suits about money may be easy and quite simple.”

In other words: economical inequality is bad, and such differences should be limited to be no more than fourfold.

Sounds familiar. This was done before, too.

“We call it ‘quotas’, in Russian they call it limity. Stalin used limity to punish his perceived enemies twice. Once was during collectivization, which began in 1929 and was largely completed by 1932, and he used quotas in the period 1937-38, which was the period of the Great Terror. In each case he divided the Soviet Union into regions and he gave the regional leaders quotas. In the case of collectivization, quotas were how many people to shoot (not terribly many), how many to put in jail (more), and how many to deport to remote regions.”

What annoys me is the all too common attitude to blame the “media” or “big journalism” or the like in a number of ignorant and unjustified ways, if one’s very own minuscule hobby horse isn’t all the time on the front page and prime time news of every newspaper, radio and tv station around the globe.

If condemning occupation, apartheid and genocide is antisemitism, then obviously semitism is occupation, apartheid and genocide.

Two cases, IMHO:

What is the way out of Ukraine conflict?
Russia gets out of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson region and Crimea; Russia pays full damage compensations; malefactors are brought before International Criminal Court, starting from Putin.

What is the way out of Palestine conflict?
Israel gets out of Golan, West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza; Israel pays full damage compensations; malefactors are brought before International Criminal Court, starting from Netanyahu.

In both cases, it is obvious that strong outside encouragement is necessary.

@RickiTarr@beige.party

I beg to differ. This is about humanism, simply a matter of respecting people.

It would not be so bad, if primitive superstition apologists kept their fairy tales to themselves. But they do not. They poison people's minds with nonsense. They try to force societies back to Bronze Age models. They intentionally make others' life hell: see US Republicans, see apartheid country Israel, see Afghanistan.

So, indeed, let us take the rational attitude. For anybody, who expects ancient nomad campfire stories to be taken seriously, I say: Make your imaginary ghost to show up, in a physical form, with proper ID, for a public miracle making test. Should not be a problem for an allegedly omniscient, omnipotent, loving and existing thing. If it passes, we'll talk. If not, case closed.

@adelgado@social.koti.site I think you are misrepresenting this situation: “The Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that it has rejected nearly two-thirds of foreign workers’ visa applications for this wild berry harvesting season, largely due to recent revelations of exploitation by Finnish companies in the sector. For example, last month a former berry firm boss was sentenced to prison for human trafficking.” https://yle.fi/a/74-20235535 It is not wrong the Government protecting people from abuse. And punishing the culprits.

@georgepenney@sunny.garden A clever Border Collie. This made me think, why my old Dachshund decades ago never did the same. Cannot recall exactly, maybe we had no traffic lights in the town half a century ago. Or else, the traffic light posts perhaps were badly designed, not for Dachshund use. 🤔
