I have been on the job market for two years now, and after being rejected in less than 24 hours after the recruiter spoke so highly of the company, he had a Freudian slip and sent me the actual conversation he had with the company.

Based on this, and an earlier comment from a co-worker that actually was involved in my hiring at this despicable company I work for, in 2024, I declare myself done!

The way forward will see me fight my way into creating a corporation from scratch, or taking up a trade.

As can be seen below, they have issues with my education level. It blows my mind that, countries like New Zealand recognise my qualification as being sufficient, and for the past 25 years it has NEVER been a barrier to employment, now it is.

Fuck this shit... I am out...

What the Freudian slip contained:
"His highest qualification not a BEng. Our specification calls for a degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering (or a relevant equivalent qualification). Some would argue that experience can compensate for the lack of a degree however, in my experience, there is a noticeable difference in engineering mindset, analytical depth, and development approach.

The products in his portfolio are a generation behind ours. This is capable and credible work, but the designs are primarily two- to four-layer boards with through-hole components and relatively coarse pitch layouts.
Our environment requires six-layer and higher HDI designs, with 3 mil track and gap, microvias, and controlled-impedance routing.

His RF experience is concentrated in the ISM band at 433 MHz and RFID at 13.56 MHz.
"

Well sir.. since my current workplace and my previous workplace after 2021 is covered by non-disclosure agreements, how do you propose I show you my work, when I am NOT ALLOWED TO DISCLOSE IT?

What co-worker said when I applied for a position in his team:

"Unfortunately you don't have a degree, we're looking for someone who has a degree" <-- how come you cleared me for hire then, you motherfucker!!!

I get by with a little bit of help from my friends and good software.

I myself am not sure if this is appropriate but @TopazRabbit@oldbytes.space will have to call it.

It's over a year later and here we are.

I do want to state that there *ARE VALID* applications of LLMs. And I want to motivate why.

I just don't have the energy right now to go and sit with Golang and write a packet handler again. I don't feel like doing it because it's a schlepp, and because it just makes me tired. I know how to do it, I am not in the mood for the debugging.

Burn-out makes you really evaluate life choices.

So I got Gemini to do it for me:

What is striking here is that the code looks *very similar* to my implementation from years ago. It is also readable and not AI SLOP, so modifying the code, understanding it, and so on is possible.

I have run unit tests on it- NO DEFECT

Do not get me wrong. I am fully against AI SLOP and all the crap AI generated imagery. Someone said "AI is a sharp tool in the hands of fools" That's very true

Still on the subject of AI.
The millions of fools (journalists, tech bros, and others) use it in a manner typical of such- they don't care what they are doing as long as they meet a deadline and appease a shareholder.

If AI is going to help me get the hard shit right (I cannot, and probably never will fully articulate anthropomorphic animals correctly, especially not hands), I am going to use it.

There is a very big difference between getting AI to do ALL the work for you, and using it to help you get the job done

@lina@vt.social AI is fast eradicating any learning activity. In my current job, learning anything new is actively discouraged. As was said to us "they only care about numbers on a dashboard". I got to the position I am in, at the level at I am in, by being curious and very interested, in taking things apart, and figuring out how they work. A LLM, which, in the eyes of a CEO means he can get rid of people like me, is the end of the road, we are all doomed.

@petealexharris@mastodon.scot And that explains why Microsoft is so keen on AI too, to them it means they can go back in time to an era when they had control, when they could charge a mint for a shitty, buggy, insecure OS that kept crashing with "Fatal Exception 0E" and BSODs every time you tried to read a PDF document

Oh and one more thing...
The CEO of my current Internet Service Provider sends me a nasty email because of this shit:

https://sonic2k.neocities.org/sonic2k_router
His company is not mentioned specifically, if anything the FTTH provider is the one I mention because it's them that's to blame.

But wow.... just wow... I am slandering apparently...

@travisfw @actuallyautistic Regarding funding, I am on a downward spiral as I live far away from the first world and I have to struggle every month to pay my medication and all the living expenses. Then you have the Orange Man with his dictatorial tendencies causing international strife, making my life so much harder, because I live in the third world, so he tanks the exchange rate and the prices of things go up 3 x in a month. Not saying at all that only some of us struggle but yes... right now surviving is an expense from hell, and it's all over.

Re: job rejection 2/2:
I deleted LinkedIn this afternoon, I am not interested in that anymore.

As to what I will do, probably run with the current job until I am laid off, which, in really optimistic terms is within 6 months.

Those wonderful engineers in my workplace, them degreed BSc and Ph.Ds that can't even solder a wire, have basically ruined the company.

First I will sort my health out, while there is still income, then, I will see how life pans out (and on whose couch my family and I will end up crashing)

@g7izu The last time we had a G4 storm was Halloween 2003, and that thoroughly destroyed my computer at the time, it hit while I was asleep, and induced high voltages in my ethernet cabling. It also inflicted a lot of damage on our national grid, causing billions in damage to key national power grid transformers
