#3GoodThings EOW Edition
- Pizza for dinner last night and then again for breakfast this morning
- Fixed a couple (admittedly minor) technical problems with minimal difficulty
- Best night of sleep all week
#3GoodThings EOW Edition
- Dishwasher repair guys came fairly early and we've got a fully functional dishwasher again
- After some initial barking, the dog remained quiet for most of the repair guys' visit
- Low effort meeting day
I've been managing my current team at work for about 4 years now, and I think they're still surprised when I say things like, "I know that's not how we're supposed to do it, but all those extra steps are just bullshit approvals to make a couple people feel more important than they are. Just get it done and out the door, and I'll take the heat for bypassing the 'official' process if there is any."
RE: @raurquiz@c.im
How does somebody create a montage of Laurence Fishburne photos and NOT include a picture of him as Cowboy Curtis?!

#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Morning meeting was cancelled
- I got a good chunk of work done on my comic database over the weekend; I think I'll be able to get even more functional use out of it than I'd been anticipating
- I think the biggest expense I have between now and payday next week is maybe filling up the car with gas
- Got notified about getting drawn into an upcoming graphic novel
- Was able to make some new indicator dials for the stove with minimal fuss/difficulty
- Drinking a Mt Dew Code Red -- been a while since I've had one
#3GoodThings EOW Edition
- Even with Monday having been a holiday, I feel like it was a challenge just to get through the week; but I did indeed make it to Friday
- Low effort work day
- Payday
Missed a week of #3GoodThings, so a catch-up should be (theoretically) easy...
- Designed and 3D printed a 'plug' to secure my outdoor security camera cord in place where it enters the house; I spent maybe a half hour on both the design and printing, and it worked perfectly right off the bat
- Won a game of Shattered Pixel Dungeon with the updated side quest
- Came up with a 'solution' about what to do with this extra mini-bookshelf that I recently had to upgrade
- Got a really strong, third party report yesterday that makes my team look 500x better than the comparable team at the company that just bought us out. It's emotionally validating and hopefully helps in securing my team members' jobs
- Lost power yesterday afternoon and it was essentially a non-event; yay, preparedness!
- Minimal effort day at work today
#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Spent more time reading comics the past day or so than I have in probably a couple months
- Have had a surprisingly long string of good nights' sleep
- Labor Day holiday
#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Noticed and fixed a minor shelf issue before it became an actual issue
- Got all my brand new and very obscure comics cataloged
- Rough night of sleep but I've got several options for dealing with it at my disposal; also it's a fairly slow morning
#3GoodThings Weekend Edition
- Slept well enough and long enough that I didn't even hear the robot vacuum run overnight
- Got the lawn mowed yesterday before it started raining heavily
- Found a use/excuse to use up some crap 3D filament I have, so it's not going to waste and not using up any better quality material
#3GoodThings MidWeek Edition
- The original page of comic art I received yesterday was even more interesting and cleverly executed than I'd anticipated
- Fairly last minute plan for a meeting tomorrow that requires minimal effort and has a good chance of being both useful and amusing
- "Solved" a few minor database issues that I'd been largely avoiding looking at
- I realized that I believe this is the first year in the 10+ years we've been in this house that the foliage has grown high and robust enough to essentially create a wall of green around our back yard; I almost can't see any neighbors
- Having to re-catalog my comics has made me more aware of many issues I didn't know I had (I've had several hundred gifted to me since I last had a decent comics database)
- Fixing my music database made me realize I've had a number of songs sitting on a lone micro-SD card; now I've got those transferred to my media server and I have less concern in their getting lost
#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Canadian holiday and several other coworkers on PTO, so it should be a very quiet day at work
- Finally got a large backlog of data updates installed in my comic database; it had kept crapping out part-way through, I think, because of the extent of the updates
- Finished all the chores I had set for the weekend, and they all went smoother than I was anticipating
#3GoodThings Lazy Saturday Morning Edition
- Sorted out some really frustrating database issues, and lost almost none of the data
- Wife made a surprise cake yesterday just to try out a new recipe
- Wife is asleep, dog is chilling on the couch, no errands to run; just a generally very pleasant, quiet morning.
#3GoodThings EOW Edition
- Not a great night's sleep, but I think I got enough of it at least
- No meetings today
- Payday
- My 'big' meeting of the day went well
- Coming up on my wife's and my annual review of our finances and making a concerted effort to take good notes last year has already paid off in saving the frustration of trying to find everything I needed; yay, past me!
- Got notice that a figure that was 'sold out' is getting a larger run so I won't have to muck about with overpriced secondary market nonsense
#3GoodThings EOW Edition
- My wife's birthday
- Resolved a database networking issue that kept me from accessing my comics DB from multiple computers
- I've got today and Monday off work for an extra long Labor Day weekend
- My pirate Santa action figure arrived yesterday
- Fixed my milk frother (hopefully permanently this time)
- It's taking a while and it's a bit tedious, but I am still pleased with how my comics cataloging is going; I'm going to be pretty jazzed to finally get things set up and part of my 'normal' operations
#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Finished cataloging my comics, graphic novels, manga, magazines, and collected newspaper strips; only have books left to do
- Finally got around to start watching "The Daleks' Master Plan" for the first time
- My one meeting for this morning just got canceled
- I was having problems with the Digital Comics Museum site the other day, but it seems to be working smoothly now; I've been able to grab a number of good PD comics to include in my personal database
- Surprise sketches in BOTH the graphic novels that arrived in the mail yesterday
- Some bottles of distilled water got punctured yesterday and leaked into the closet, but I managed to catch it fairly quickly and the only damage was to some empty cardboard boxes
- Got some good suggestions on ways to improve my resume; another set of eyes always helps
- Solved a mildly annoying (and admittedly totally inconsequential) file formatting problem
- Finally got word that a preorder I was increasingly concerned about is ready to ship
Dang, missed most of this week's #3GoodThings ...
- Been getting decent sleep all week
- Making slow, but steady, progress on my comics database
- Lots of odd, little chores seem to have cropped up this week but I've managed to keep on top of all of them
#3GoodThings EOW Edition
- Was able to relatively painlessly address multiple (minor) smart home issues that somehow all seemed to crop up more-or-less simultaneously
- Marvel dropped some big news yesterday that made it super-easy for me to write a decent blog post for today
- Payday
If you have kids and don't regularly mess with them like this, what's even the point?

#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Finished cataloging all my comic stuff. I might still go through and do some ancillary material (Big Little Books, prose novels, etc) but I've got my primary collection done finally
- Won a game of Shattered Pixel Dungeon. it was REALLY difficult for me to win the first time I did so; it's not exactly easy for me now but I definitely have MUCH better odds
- Wife made chicken vindaloo for dinner last night
#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Finished cataloging all of my pamphlet comics
- Figured out a "shortcut" to adding digital comics to my database that should save me hours of tedium
- Saw video footage of some upcoming toys from Big Bad Workshop that I'm quite interested in
Missed #3GoodThings a few times this week; trying to catch up in the EOW Edition...
- Came up with another idea to improve the efficiency (slightly) of some of the data entry in my comic database
- Haven't needed to be on-camera for a meeting since Wednesday afternoon and don't have another one scheduled until next week Tuesday
- Payday
- External CD/DVD drive showed up a little earlier than I was expecting yesterday and it seems to work okay; I've already salvaged 500+ digital comics from old CD-ROMs
- Came up with a decent/new/original topic for the weekly team meeting I've been running for 5 years now; always feels like a challenge to not repeat myself
- Very hot and exceptionally muggy outside, but the a/c is working fine, so I'm still pretty comfortable
#3GoodThings EOW Edition
- Repaired the cheap milk frother my wife got a while back and suddenly stopped working a few days ago
- No work meetings today
- Payday
- Resolved an issue with a motion sensor
- Got a problematic download to work properly
- My Tuesdays are usually very meeting-heavy, but at least one of them got canceled today
#3GoodThings Monday Morning Edition
- Got a very nice LinkedIn recommendation from a coworker overnight
- May have come up with another partial solution to my way-past-ran-out-of-room-in-my-comic-library issue
- Last week, my wife and I plotted out a 'reset' in how we tackle the grocery budget and shopping; we acted on it for the first time over the weekend and it seemed to go reasonably successfully
