"My AI is so good it endangers software security. Keep it hidden!" "My AI is so good it hacks other companies." "My AI will kill us all in a few years. Trust me! 10% probability!" "My AI hacks companies too!" "AI is so we good we need regulation for safety [to strengthen our monopolies]" Guys... The hype propaganda is so clear it's almost childish. Just go bankrupt quickly so we can move along.

Hey, GNOME people... or Fedora people, whoever did that, the message is for you both: I understand Windows people have no idea what middle-click paste is for, or what purpose does it satisfy, but it's incredibly (for you) very useful for all those who know about it and use it daily, several, several times. So changing that parameter to off by default on an upgrade... That's no Good™ Not angry, it's just very annoying. I thought the mousepad was broken until it failed with the mouse too. kthnxby

Dear #FreeSoftware developers...

These governmental attestation requirements popping up all over the world are nothing but a visible escalation step in the war on generic computing.

@pluralistic@mamot.fr spoke about it in 2011 and here's a nice transcript for you https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Coming_War_on_General_Computation

I'm not modest enough to not say I was also looking at those writings in the wall, but he's a much better speaker.

Go read that, and please, please, please...

Stop collaborating with the authoritarians.

@einsiedlerspiel@todon.nl Oh, I suspected that much, thanks. But it was mostly the surprise change, and believing it was a hardware support issue, until I went into a desktop, with a mouse, and it also didn't work. Tried again with the mouse in the laptop and... Sighed. :)

Once in a while I see posts claiming doom and gloom on Free Software security, and they dare wave the flag of the Xz attack, from a high pedestal.

The weirdest and worst case was Veritassium's recent (and shameful IMHO) video.

My comment:

A highly specialized, and long term planning attack, was caught before it did any real harm because of, not in spite of, Free Software's inherently better security model.

@neurovagrant Zero trust was always about full trust on proprietary blobs, so that's nothing new, really. ;)

If these terrific questions don't make you think twice about the seriousness (if not intention) behind posts like those, then you have a problem with your security posture regarding supply chain attacks.

@katzenmann@c3d2.social You do you! :) I'm definitely not a fan of having the scroll done by pressing the middle button, that's a legacy from bad mice doing in software drivers what they didn't do by themselves, in a proprietary operating system where that button *never* did anything useful. Unlike "here" where it has been useful for many, many decades.
