I endorse the statement by the Australian Mathematical Society calling upon the IMU to reconsider Philadelphia in the USA as host venue for the 2026 ICM due to risks to international delegates from the USA’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and potential dangers from involvement of the host nation in current warfare.
I would add: due to Trump's attempts to re-define mathematics. The mission of the International Mathematical Union (IMU) "to promote international cooperation in mathematics" obviously cannot be furthered by holding the 2026 ICM in the the USA.

How am I supposed to assess and rank ARC grant applications that are riddled with LLM-generated or generative AI content? Guess I'll just have to send them back as un-assessable. This AI shenanigans is getting ridiculous! The entire research funding system could fall in a heap! The ARC bureaucracy cannot solve this problem alone though. (I am not talking about proposals to use machine learning to *analyse* data.) @ARC_Tracker@aus.social #academicchatter

@ninawillburger@social.anoxinon.de There are three snails with anticlockwise (sinistral) coiled shells and five with clockwise (dextral) coiled shells. Since Roman snails are almost always dextral, the rare sinistral snails are called Kings, so... the three Kings are there, in the basilica! Who are the five snails, tho? The two geometric types of snail are a pair of enantiomorphs, which means they are non-superimposable mirror images. This same-but-different asymmetry has profound consequences in life, the universe, and everything. #mathematics #physics #chemistry
