This is a fascinating thread about the idea of a universal basic income. There have been many experiments testing a UBI in the world and people keep debating it....but in countries with a state funded old age pension, we have a massive real time UBI experiment....in the case of Aotearoa NZ for 88 years.
....so what happens when people turn 65 and get a universal basic income.... We live our best lives! Including stacks of volunteering.

Now we've seen competent leadership in a crisis, we can't unsee it. For goodness sake what a collection of mumpties....or is it lickspittles?

@KiwiEV@mastodon.nz yes yes, this is far more achievable for AoNZ except for fertiliser, plastics and other products. Of course we should. Of course.

Good report from Charlie Mitchell about the completely absurd NZ "remigration" movement.....led by the children of migrants to Aotearoa New Zealand.
It's a white supremecist movement which ignores the fact that all "white" New Zealanders are migrants or descended from migrants.
If they weren't verging on evil, it'd be hilarious.

It's so tragic that those who most need the policies of the left, are persuaded by the far right. I can think of lots of reasons these folks fall for this, but it doesn't reduce the tragedy.

You would love the tone of barely concealed wonderment when they're interviewed. It's rather sweet. No uplifting.
