Heather

I know I've asked this before, but I'm running low on spoons and would appreciate any help or recs, if people have them. My current Mastodon/Hometown hosting provider has been having more and more issues as of late, in addition to being bad at communicating, and I'd like to switch to a different host. Does anyone know of good people who offer hosting for Hometown servers? I'd love to go with Fedi.Monster (and possibly switch to Glitch in the process ), but they say on their website they're unlikely to accept new applications right now. (I've sent an email anyway, I'm crossing my fingers 🤞) If you know of any others, please send me a link! I'd like to get this all figured out sooner rather than later; If it was just myself I could deal with the sporadic service, but it's affecting my other users as well, and I can't accept that. ;____; Thank you so much in advance. #Question #AskFedi #MastoAdmin

A question for the Fedi Hivemind: There's a webcomic I can't remember the name of. x__x I remember coming across it in the mid-late 2000s. It was bright and cartoony and very well drawn; I remember it being hilarious, actual laughing out loud kind of thing. It was short, though, and unfinished. It took place in a high school, followed a number of different characters. In particular, I remember one of the teachers, a rather nerdy guy, selling his soul to the devil because he was so fed up with the kids or something, and becoming a devil himself; he grew large horns and gained more of a devil-like temper. There was also a rooster? I think? Anyway... hell and fire were some of the major themes. I know it's not much to go on... I remember it so well, even if I can't remember details or the name of it. Anyone have any ideas what it could have been? #AskFedi #DDFedi #webcomics #question

Ah, the Risa episode it appears in is from DS9, the one where Jadzia goes to Risa with Worf. That's the first pic… the second pic is the "Blink of an Eye" episode from Voyager. :)

Some of the more nerdy among you may recognize the Bloedel Conservatory in that magnolia photo from a couple Star Trek episodes, where it was used in matte paintings in a couple episodes for buildings in alien world backgrounds. Apparently Gene Roddenberry was very fond of it, thinking it looked very futuristic. :) I know for sure it was used in the Voyager episode "Blink of an Eye" where they become trapped in the atmosphere of a planet where time runs much faster than on Voyager, where they witness centuries of cultural development on the surface in the few days they're trapped. I think it was also used as a building in Risa in a TNG episode…? I may be wrong about that…

@twoowls73@mastodon.scot Aww, that's wonderful, thank you! I hope she gets a lot out of it. :bear_hugs:

@Cassana@pagan.plus First of all, I want to thank you so much for sharing your advice and experience with us! I appreciate it so much! I have a question about emoji use, especially custom emojis that are added to various mastodon instances. How are they interpreted by screen readers? Does it matter what the short code is for custom emojis to make them more accessible? (Thank you again, and feel free to ignore if you're overwhelmed!)

@darius@friend.camp I can't wait!! I had plans to migrate to Hometown back in October, but the Twitter situation then the release of Mastodon v4.0 put the kibosh on that. X) Thank you *so much* for all your hard work! :da_cuddle:

Thank you so much for boosting this, @stevelieber@mastodon.social! I really appreciate it! :da_cuddle:

@Jamellica@mastodon.world Oh gosh, Verena!! It's so good to hear from you, welcome to the Fediverse! :da_cuddle: I hear you about the not drawing anymore… I suffered some major burn-out a few years ago and I'm still trying to get over it. I haven't had a regular drawing practice for years now. I'm looking forward to seeing your posts in my feed. Thank you for reaching out and saying hi! 🥰
